John: what brand of receiver is that? more importantly, how old is it? Just wondering cause newer receivers have relative volume adjustments, not the old style variable resistor based control.
The Toshiba stereo recieiver model SA-725 is 25 years old, as it was purchashed in 1978. It must have variable resistor control. It is old but was working fine through March of this year. Any ideas?
John: I don't really have any solid ideas. It's likely it's just normal wear on the volume control (variable resistor). Could be dust or just breakdown of the component. If you have a local electronics shop in town (my record store use to be right next door to one)... see if they'll "look" at it for free (and give you an estimate). Other than that, I can't suggest anything else.
