Hi. I have just joined and would like to introduce myself. I am retired and for the past few years have been restoring vintage cassette decks as a hobby and while most can get away with the usual belt change /clean ect ect some require a lot more. Motor change/head change/pots stripped and rebuilt. So here is my question. a Hitachi D-980 3 head. I picked up one of these on ebay as none working. New belts/capstan a good clean and a few switches cleaned and it sounds great. Everything works but when recording on chrome settings the record volume goes sky high with the meters bouncing off the end. I can't find any option to fix this as altering the playback/record/meter settings alters the normal record levels .
