Hi i just bought a pair of proac ebs speakers at the Bootsale and they are working which was strange they were purchased from Rayleigh hifi in 1988 The black cabinets need restoration and there is some burnt area on both crossovers boards where the heat element is . looking for some info and a price if anyone can help as i know nothingabout these speakers cheers
Are you planning to do this work yourself? Are you capable enough to diassemble the speaker and do woodworking repair on veneers? Do you know how to remove and resolder new components on the crossover board?
hi mate i am french polisher damage repair specialist i can do most things i put my hands to soldering not a problem its only the board that has burns i think that some small pieces of metal are missing from behind the heat shield
Then you are in a better position than I am to guesstimate the cost of cabinet repair. I wouldn't try to substitute another cabinet. ProAc performed some design work on what you have and unless the cabinets are very straight forwad, say, 2 cubic foot enclosure with tweeter mounted directly above the woofer - then the cabinet was designed for a specific purpose.
I would first contact ProAc for repairs to the crossover. It's possible the parts have been replaced and the burnt board left in place. Do the speakers appear to work properly? What repairs do you think need to be addressed?
Fix the crossovers in PAIRS, especially if changing parts. Make 'em match.
You may want to look into getting the woofers professionally reconed or just having the surround replaced. The tweeters? Take your chances for now, but be prepared to try to find a new pair.
My dad repaired his EBS last year, took the back off & replaced 1 of the parts on the circuit board, don't know which part exactly but he bought it from: http://www.wilmslow-audio.co.uk/
Thanks mate doing the cabs at the moment they are getting there nearly ready for paint only thing wrong getting a little scratching from one of the atc mids
