I am in the market for a new reciever and was wondering if the 2805 is worth the extra $400 canadian or not? any other recievers I should check out?

Yes it is worth it I think. The 2805 has many more friendly features. Such as video upconversion. Room EQ setups (auto or manual). More power. Overall a better display of new technology.
Look at Marantz 5400, 6400 as well.
