I have a Sony 5 channel receiver, Sony cd changer, and two Cerwin Vega ls-12 floor loudspeakers.
The fuses on the speakers tend to pop well before getting to the max volume, and the receiver also starts to heat up when music is played. I am wondering if I need to go out and get a different receiver, or if this is normal.
what receiver is it that you are trying to drive these CV's with? Some of the sony's tend to be underpowered in the powersupply and have some difficulty with running large speakers.
and would look at a better quality reciever. like a nad/pioneer elite/marantz or h/k

If your driving your amps to the level that they are clipping, this would explain why your CV's are blowing fuses. Sounds like you need a lot more power than your Sony can provide. General rule is that your amp should be more powerful than your speakers to avoid clipping, but with the CV's high power rating, that may be hard to do on a budget.
