NAD T742 and 4ohm speakers

I am using NAD T742 and Polk Lsi 9 and C speakers for L, C, and R, and a pair of Bose 161 speakers as surrounds.

My problem is that I am thinking to get a pair of Lsi 7 to replace the crappy Bose 161.

Although I have no trouble at all with my original set up. T742 can work perfectly with the L, C, and R. I am a little worry about getting all 5 channels at 4 ohms will hurt my receiver.

Q1: Should I just keep using my good old T742 (anyone had any experience about using all 5 channels at 4 ohms?), or I should get a new receiver?

Q2: Or is it better to keep the T742 as pre-amp and get a power amp? Since I am still a poor grad student, I don't think I can affort a good 5-channel power amp, is it okay to just get a stereo power amp such as NAD 270?

Thank you for any input.

well you could definatly add an amp to take the load off.

but generally nad recievers have no problem with
4 ohm loads all the way around.

you were probably allready thinking this way but
if you add an amp i would put my main 2 front
speakers on it.

and many other reciver company's have problems
with 4 ohm loads so another reciever may be difficult
to find and expensive.

Your room size will also determine the need to add another power amp.

I have my 742 setup with 6 ohm speakers on all channels except stage center and it handles these pefectly fine. Room is 12 x 20

I dont know the Polks sensitivity, but my guess is it should work fine with 4 ohms speakers as well.
