these Autoformers got into my head just sold it and probably will get 6600 crazy, I know... And after that I will want to say politely goodbye to all of you. No more upgrades or ideas some looooong, long time.
Pablo, dude, this is pure straight up. You are nuts to buy a new Mac now, when so much is on the block. I posted the link. Guys are selling stuff cheap, and good stuff, too.
Did your interest in Mac ever stray to held value? I have bought on Mac love and beer, but I can get it back reselling (cept the beer).
If you want to consider a good integrated, I am behind the 6900.
Here is an ad from a guy I know, who wanted me to clean and relight the thing. No problem.
I recently purchase an MA6900 and I can say that I'm very happy with it, it was the sound that i was really looking for..."warm, detailed, awesome clarity, highs are clear but not overpowering, not fatiguing... bass is defined, tight, solid" but most of all music is sweet and real to my ears ..and not to mention the build quality, it's awesome.. and i do believe that i am still not getting/using the full potential of this integrated...I am still experimenting on different sources and hopefully would have the chance and the dough to try different speakers
I have not heard the MA6600 though hence i can't comment on it...
Arien - as far as I know MA6600 is never version of MA6900, so it should be the same or more. Nuck, Dave - I will get smoking deal on the new one. Generally what is your opinion of MA6600 for my set up. Would that be IT? (at last for a while) Pablo
I really don't know about the the 6600 at all. If I had 4k kicking around right, which I don't, I'd buy the 6900. It would probably be all I needed for 4-6 months. You have a line on a 6600?
like I mention, for all I know 6600 is same as 6900 and some:
"The MA6600 uses the thermaltrak transistors as does most of the newer McIntosh equipment including the MA7000. The MA6600 has LED lighting and digital volume control with level/readout controls at the individual input level.
Thermaltraks are now being also used in Audio Research and Ayre amplifiers - two well-respected manufacturers. Per McIntosh, the thermaltraks allow the amps to run cooler with less distortion. My MA6600 idle temp is around 85F. Normal listening levels 97F or less using Thiel 3.6s. All slightly cooler than the MA6900. Bet the follow on amps to 402/252 will use them too. Primary benefit seems to be the tighter bias thermal tracking. An nice evoluntary technology that McInsosh was first to use in both high-end reference system and low-end MA6300.
Totaly subjective, but using my Thiel speakers the MA6600 seems to sound better and more dynamic. Per McIntosh;s Chuck H. is has more current capability over MA6900.
The MA6600 has the very similar controls layout to the C2300 preamp with the digital volume control. The C2300 alone cost as much as the MA6600 (talking control layout- not tube vs transistor considerations). The MA7000 is almost exactly like the MA6900 with older analog volume and 5 band equalizer. 6600 to simply be a 6900 with the tuner option swapped for the five-band."
