A second life for the Carver?

As members of the Old Dogs New Tricks forum know all too well, I was the recipient of a most welcome Carver amplifier some time back. Just like the one I had to sell way back in '98. Sweet, sweet memories! But - I had no preamp - so I was for awhile using the Carver along with the preamp section of my NAD 763 on the B&W mains. They - and I - loved the openness and clarity of the Carver. But the WAF was way down on the Carver's living room presence, so I finally had to take it away to the den/dungeon, where it resides in humble plastic wrap. SIGH.
Then says I, why not try to find a proper preamp for it, and run a second stereo rig in the den? Aha! So I scouted and scouted, and am bidding on eBay on a Carver CT-7 preamp - the same one I had so long ago.
Hope I get it. But it may go for too many dollars. SIGH. But hope springs eternal. . .
For anyone who has been - or still is - a Carver fan, well, there ain't much better sound to be had I M H O. (very humble, at that)

I used an M400t for a LONG time. Well over 20 years, from new to sold for parts.
Carver has a pretty, dare I say? Rabid following, but not so much around here. Even the vintage folk rarely mention it.

For a 2nd system? Why not? Power caps are probably a little edgy and some parts are getting hard to find. Mechanical disassembly of my cube was daunting at the least and frustrating at the worst.

It wouldn't be worth it to me, even for a garage system. But, I have NO extra space for multiple systems, either.
But, from our FWIW department, try to find an original pair of Advent Large.....they really like Carver gear and it'll make it an all-vintage system.....
Maybe find an old Dual or Benjamin Miracord TT as well. Some old, original Koss Pro4aa headphones and a case of Billy Beer.

Enjoy!

Leo - good points all, sir. Yeah, "rabid" is the correct word for those of us who once upon a time fell in love with "the Carver mystique." Oh, I loved the sounds that came out of the Carver/Kef setup, so with that in mind I thought, "what the heck - bring back my bobby sox and white buck shoes!!": GRIN
We'll see what happens with the auction - I'm not about to blow 300 green ones on a CT-7. Chap in PA has one for sale for, I think, 175, but he wants to sell an amp with it. If I don't get the auction CT I may try to deal with him. It looks brand new from the pics online.
Anyway - it keeps me out of (even more) trouble! GRIN

Liked my 2000
Still see it collecting dust in Son-in-law's garage
But to resurrect it?
Not sure if there'd be benefit to all that effort and $'s

Well, I got seriously out-bid on eBay for the CT-7 - so that's it. I give up, and the Carver amp goes into "deep hibernation."
One system at a time is good enough, anyway. SIGH.

Thanks, as always, Mike.
Too late for an old man to think tonight - tomorrow I'll pitch in.
