So I just bought the system on craigslist from a guy locally. I read some reviews online and figured it would be a good add for my college apartment so I bought the system for $75. Well the trouble comes when trying to hook-up the subwoofer for the system. On the back of the unit there is a pre-amp out and on the powered sub there are two, aux hookups for input and output. I've tried hooking up to both and it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone help me with this please? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Greetings Justin,

The two inputs you are speaking of on the back of the sub woofer are redundant and used for a very few receivers/amps that called for left and right subwoofer. You only need to connect to one of those (either one). If the sub is making thumping noises when you attempt to plug the RCA jack into it you should be all set on the subwoofer end of things.

I do not have a picture of the back of your receiver but there may be more than one pre-out for the subwoofer. If you have the right one then perhaps the problem can be solved in the setup menu by telling the receiver what kind of speakers it is running.

Hope this helps.

Justin, read the manual for setup.
It went to default when unplugged and needs a quick setup.
Have fun!

Thanks for your help, but after going through the setup and the plug-in nothing works still. The setup says that a subwoofer is connected and I tried all four slots on the sub to plug into (two red and two white) but nothing seems to work. Hmm I just don't know. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Correct. Two sets one input and one output.

I think you are looking at speaker terminals. There wouldn't be an output with line level RCA jacks.

You are looking for connectors that look like the ones on the back of this:

Does your subwoofer have a power cord?

Here's two pictures of the back of the subwoofer.

Upload

The image is a little blurry but there are TWO RCA jacks. One says input and the other says output. This is a powered subwoofer, with a plug.

OK, I sure didn't expect RCA outputs but anyway we go back to the beginning, connecting an RCA cable to the input with the power on should make some noise, if so then back to the receiver for correct connections and set up.

Getting to the back of the receiver is nearly impossible. If you want an image you can check out the manual.
