Lexicon BD-30 Blu-ray Player (Oppo BDP-83 Clone) Review

quote:

It's an Oppo BDP-83. Normally we'd launch into a statement like this with more tact. We may, for example, wax eloquent about the Lexicon BD-30's beautiful chassis or it's billet aluminum front face. We could tell you about the heft of the unit, or the fact that comes double boxed with enough padding to warrant throwing it off the FedEx or UPS truck while it's still moving. While all of that is true, the Lexicon BD-30 is still an Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray Player. And what's more, it's not just using the same parts - they actually stuck the player inside - chassis and all. This would be OK, were it not for the $3000 premium and THX certification. As Sherlock Holmes would say: The game is afoot!

The best part is the high end audio crowd at avsforums still try and defend the product!

Maybe Andy Summers got tired of his old angle and is trying this new one to see if he can annoy us further. The world may never know.

Good post Nuck. If you google the Ayre player you can find REAL pictures of it, and it is nowhere near a Oppo copy. Lexicon? not sure.

The Lexicon is definately an Oppo in a Lexicon shell. That is well known. The Ayre - that's another kettle of fish entirely.

Bruzonsky - stop posting crap and stuff we already know. Give us something real for a change.

The only good thing that ever came out of Lexicon IMO is that you can get old re-badged Bryston amps for decent prices. LOL. Who knows if they were built the same or not.

This once again proves that the high end is a joke. Even the ayre is a joke since they use a poorer peforming DAC then the oppo SE, why people would pay more for less is beyond me?

You seem to know as much about what makes a decent cdp as a snail Bruzonsky.

High End isn't a joke moron. Take a trip to the McIntosh factory or Bryston factory and watch real technicians hand build an amp from scratch with caps the size of my fist. Then slap a 20 or 10 year warranty on it. You have ONE good point and that was on the Lexicon. So now all High End is a joke. Steven you are F*cking stupid. The Ayre is a whole other beast. The DAC output doesn't make all the difference at all. Moron. Your a moron. Moron.

You mean how the new mcintosh MVP881 is a rebadged denon?

If ayre was a serious company and we see that they are not by their past source units being an empty box they would send in a DX-5 to audioholics and have it tests, or is ayre now scared that their subjective snake oil advertising will bite them in the rear?

********NO TROLL ZONE********

Steve, drop it. This rebadging thing has been going on for decades.
Maybe worse now, but maybe better, too.
My original CD player, sitting in the other room is a Magnevox.
Man, was I disappointed to learn it was really a Phillips.

Then why would the reviewer state that the lexicon is "better"?

Because the trail of the 2nd shooter on the grassy knoll went dead?

And there you have it, even when the product is proven to be a 100% rebadge the high end audio supporters still do not believe it. That my friends is insanity. It show's you that these supporters are only interested in price and name.

Unreal how the high end will still defend a 100% rebadged product?

Now the lexicon fan boys are saying that the thicker chassis will improve the audio.
