I am going crazy trying to find the best receiver for my new HT setup.
I have 2 NHT SuperTwo's (which are fantastic) and just bought 3 SuperOne's for center and surrounds.
Now I just need a receiver; want to spend under $500.
I've read all the boards, all the reviews, talked to NHT, onecall ... now even more confused.
I'm sort of down to these finalists:
Onkyo TXSR601 NAD 742/751 HK AVR525 (refurb) or AVR230
Am I on track?
I've always liked the NAD sound for music; not sure if it's punchy enough for HT; and very nervous about all the breakdown issues I've been hearing about.
HK is very pretty, a bit pricey, and I don't really need 7.1 --- 5.1 is fine.
Onkyo seems to get rave reviews everywhere...
I need to make a decision before I go completely crazy.
Any help would be appreciated, especially from anyone who has my same NHT setup...
I took back HK AVR525 because the noise from its cooling fan was distracting. Got the AVR225 (now AVR230). It has 55wpc in 5.1 mode. Plenty of power for medium size room with reasonably efficient speakers (mine are 87db).
