I have not purchased home stereo equipment for over 20 years. I have spent the last 3 weeks looking and listening. Everyone is pushing the home theatre systems. I am more interested in a good sounding stereo system. I have also noticed that you cannot buy a complete system any more from one manufacture. The last system I bought was JVC for $2,000 back in 1990 and it included floor standing speakers (which I am still using) tuner, equilizer, cd, dual cassett player, amp and turn table.
I have looked at Cambridge, Dennon, NAD, Rotel, Yamaha and Arcam. I have listened to Paradim,Infinity, REL and several other speakers. I dont have an unlimited budget, but I want a good/great sounding system.
Are any of these manufactures better then others? Are there any other manufactures I should go look at? What speakers do you like or recomend? I have noticed that peolpe dont incorporate equilizers into their systems anymore. Is there a reason for this?
