I am stereo system novice that recently purchased a 1969 Dual 1264 turntable. I'm attempting to hook it up to my Denon AVR-688 receiver... however, the amp does not have a "phono" input nor a grounding post. I have successfully connected the grounding wire to a screw on the back and have tried the channel cables in both the "CD/Tape" input as well as the "Aux" input, but the sound quality is terrible. Grounding it helped get rid of the some of the buzz/hum, but the volume is extremely low and I'm having to turn the master volume almost all the way up in order to hear music.
You need a phono preamp stage between the receiver and the TT. Modern (alledgedly) receivers omit that section since so few would know what to do with it and backpanel space, not to mention internal space in the receiver is at a premium.
someone will be along in a minute to make a phono preamp suggestion.
