Bronze Member Username: Steve_bruzonskyPost Number: 12 Registered: Jul-09 | Why would anyone buy one? |

Silver Member Username: SoundgameToronto, Ontario Canada Post Number: 996 Registered: Jun-08 | And, Stevie, how do you know they haven't chosen all the compenents with a higher standard...lower tolerance for variance, hence a more accurate and consistent product line? Hmmmm. |

I also almost bought that Lexicon you told us about back in the day too. You've saved so many people so much money!!! Don't fall into his stupid trap, George. Now back to reality... |
Platinum Member Username: NuckPost Number: 13472 Registered: Dec-04 | Aww, Steve ain't so bad. He has not attacked anyone, has not gotten too personal and has maintained his point throughout. I say we adopt him. Hey, you never know when we could use an ombidsman. |

Bronze Member Username: Steve_bruzonskyPost Number: 13 Registered: Jul-09 | Take a look at the pictures and compare then to the oppo, they have no changed anything, I don't understand why some people can not see this. Snake oil theta is at it again. |
Gold Member Username: My_rantzAustralia Post Number: 2488 Registered: Nov-05 | I was told the new Cambridge BDP will be an Oppo copy - to be honest, they all probably can't do better than the BDP-83. It's a great all round widely acclaimed machine. And loads fast too! |

Gold Member Username: Stu_pittIrvington, New York USA Post Number: 3476 Registered: May-05 | Snake Oil Theta? Theta makes just about everything in-house in the good old USA. If you've ever heard their gear, you wouldn't call them snake oil. Everyone has preferences, but anyone who knows anything about this hobby knows Theta is legit. Start listening with your ears and not listening to a spec sheet. And as for everything can be measured, show me a soundstage height, width, and /or depth measurement. |
Gold Member Username: Nickelbut10Post Number: 2752 Registered: Jun-07 | lol I agree with Stu. Theta make some really sweet gear. |
Gold Member Username: Nickelbut10Post Number: 2753 Registered: Jun-07 | Steve- When it comes to a blu ray player I would assume almost all of the brands use similar parts or specs. However, playing around with three or four different blu ray players in my house, I have came to the conclusion that the most important part to the players is the software/firmware or programming. Theta do all their own programming in house. I am sure it is very different than the Oppo. Plus how the parts are put in place to work together is a big difference as well. Specs are specs. Parts are parts. Its how its engineered is the key! |

Gold Member Username: ChitownPost Number: 1412 Registered: Apr-05 | Well at least we know for sure the new NAD BD is not a knock off of Oppo. Wow for $800 it lacks so many features of the Oppo unit. http://www.saturdayaudio.com/picturepages/nad_t587.htm http://nadelectronics.com/products/dvd-players/T-587-Blu-ray-Disc-Player |

Bronze Member Username: Steve_bruzonskyPost Number: 16 Registered: Jul-09 | Stu Pitt, looks like theta is snake oil to me, they copy $500 blu ray players, their amps have very high THD ratings and they can not even bring in HDMI for the casablanca. Nick K, since theta can not do HDMI how are they going to program a oppo blu ray player? What changes would they make to the software/firmare that eould make a sonic difference? |
Bronze Member Username: Steve_bruzonskyPost Number: 18 Registered: Jul-09 | Looks like the Ayre DX-5 at $10,000 is also a oppo rebadge. |

Platinum Member Username: ArtkAlbany, Oregon USA Post Number: 11308 Registered: Feb-05 | Or better yet, who gives a shite. Don't want it, don't buy it. |
Silver Member Username: MagfanUSA Post Number: 642 Registered: Oct-07 | So, how much rebadging DOES go on? Nobody, or few anyway, own the manufacturing for all they sell. Back in VCR days, at least the beginning there were what...... 3 primes? If you had REAL deep pockets you could get your own 'branded' lineup. Start where you will with a piece. Somebody will build-to-suit if you pony up the $$. And Bruz, even if the backpanel is the same, and even from the same run, that doesn't prove much. |
Bronze Member Username: Steve_bruzonskyPost Number: 24 Registered: Jul-09 | If the back panel and the specs are 100% the same as with the weight then I would say it is a sure thing that the product is a direct rebadge. |
Bronze Member Username: Steve_bruzonskyPost Number: 40 Registered: Jul-09 | Looks like theta is in trouble since they still can not get HDMI to work in the casablanca. |
Bronze Member Username: Steve_bruzonskyPost Number: 69 Registered: Jul-09 | http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1168890&page=4 Post 99 and down, theta has shipped the compli blu and of course the sonic improvments are already being talked about. |
