As far as "Run For Your Life", I spent $5 for it, and it was worth every penny IYGMD.

Thanks to M.R. posting about Joe Bonamassa and Chris and Art posting about Melody Gardot I now have them in my collection. I found them at Frye's while looking for a DAC that I did not find. Go figure.

Joe Bonamassa - The Ballad of John Henry
CD

Very full upbeat sound. Lots of horns, with Lee Thornburg and David Woodford on Sax. That and I completely concur with M.R.'s post about this CD.

M - 4.5
S - 4.75

Melody Gardot - My One And Only Thrill
CD

If you guys would have indicated how smashingly good her vocals are I would have looked harder for this. She is not unique in any specific way, but adds another option to a small list of jazz artists that you could leave the replay option set to on for a long time. Her production is better than anything I heard from Celine Dion. I find her as appealing as Patricia Barber, Shelby Lynne, or Holly Cole.

M - 4.8
S - 4.5

I am going to listen to these 2 CDs another couple of times each this weekend.

Spinning on the turntable now;

Styx - Equinox

I saw them live in Chicago a couple of times, once as TW4 and then once as Styx. Lorelei and Suite Madam Blue were just released when I saw them. Wish I could remember more of that concert. LOL

Thanks for requesting this one Nuck. Great album!

I have both of the Melody Gardot albums and like her a lot. An excellent pop artist with a jazz and blues sensibility much like Norah Jones except Norah adds an Amerciana flavor to her repertoire. Much as I like Melody I would not begin to compare her artistically to Patricia Barber or Shelby Lynne...completely different leagues IMO, YMMV.

BTW I've seen Styx a couple of times myself...way back in the 70's in Illinois when I lived there and later in Pocatello, Idaho. They were with other Illinois bands both times. Headeast, Starcastle and REO Speedwagon. Can't remember which show had which though.

Good thing you did not play it on the Gallos first, or as JV once did when selling Spicas on my kit, took payment, then played the Gallos.

Darn, now I remember that is what got me off of my DIY ICs and down that expensive IC upgrade path. I never realized how much money JV's sale cost me until now.

Then again, my system would not be at this level without the MIT Shotgun ICs.

My first trainer when I went to work at Hewlett-Packard was born in Pocatello. Last week I had an intake with a kid from Poky as we call it. When I met my dietician relative to my diabetes we realized that we had met at a WIC office in Pocatello 20 years earlier.

Tarja Turunen - My Winter Storm

Love it! Her voice has never sounded better! It is very easy on my ears, and not thin (unlike Sarah Brightman, who sounds thin on certain songs)

Mike, if you are at all a fan of Nightwish, do yourself a favor and check this album out. It is symphonic rock, but has some classical elements in it.

http://www.mywinterstorm.com/flash/index.php?lang=en

classical fans will more than likely be put off by this due to the rock influence. You have to have an open mind when listening to her music, but I find it quite enjoyable...especially with that fabulous voice.

Notice I didn't say it was relaxing (far from it on several of the tracks).

Clapton 24 nights..2nd cd of the set.

White Room playing now, the recording is giving me fits on bass levels.
Closing all the doors helped a lot, but the bass is very dynamic on this recording (and maybe just a tad uneven).

The bass amp is getting above room temp.
