Amp stand

As I ponder a new rack, I will put this out there.
My Gallo SA sub amp has a fan that moves air front to back, and does not get warm at all.

I am contemplating using this amp as a base for the Mac 6900, perhaps even with a slab in between.

There is also a possibility of using 2 sub amps in the future, but in the stack, not on the floor.

Does anyone see a problem with this, other than the base unit(s) holding up the 85lb Mac?

TIA

I think you should keep some distance between them. Noise from one may effect the other. Also consider vibration. Just my gut feeling.

Stacking the sub amps on each other would probably work out fine. Just another gut feeling.

Thanks, Stu.
I was considering the amps on the floor thing for a while, but the rack will be better, and I will use shelves at the cost of height.

Vibration would be my concern as well. I agree with Stu.

Probably going to have a friend of mine carpenter one up for me.
Not sure of construction yet...

And an Oak sandbox for the VPI.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Let me know what sort of design you decide on.

Likey a vanilla vertical support stand of no great description.

Or something wild, hehe.

If you have the floor space, which I know you do, why not just build Oak sandboxes for everything?

It can be done tastefully so keep the man-cave thoughts to yourselves.

Nuck has a basement if I recall so isolation would be more important in his case such as mine with the 2nd floor listening room.

I have reduced the componant count to the point that a small stand will suffice, plus the sandbox.

I dont think I like the idea of multiple sandboxes for my room, somehow, it is still small.

If you don't want to go the DYI, pick up one of these from Future Shop (I know, I know....)

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000F S10095963&catid=

I have my Mac system on it and it's surprisingly good quality. For 189 bucks you can't go wrong.

I like the look of some of the Sanus stuff. Your rack looks pretty solid Dave and my read of the specs sounds like it's sturdy enough for some heavyweight gear.

Doesn't say how much room there is between the shelves.

I can't remember the actual clearance George. It's a lot of space, though. More than enough for some big-@assed Mac gear, with breathing space. They're rated for 100 lbs per shelf. I just bought another one today, as a matter of fact. Renovating the living room and decided to step up from the Canadian Tire shite I had sort of haphazardly balancing everything.

The open shelf look may have to work for me, as the 6900 is side vented.
The fullsides that I have used so far have granted prettty solid mid vocals, however.

The stand plays a fairly predominant role in how the room sounds, with high flat sides.

Well, sales so far are going at MSRP for Gallo amps. I wonder if i should not sell mine and go with plate amps, in funky enclosures.

Plate amps are active(with phase control) yes?
The woofer coils in question are pretty stable passive 4 ohm loads.

How about getting you carpenter friend to build it Nuck - perhaps materials and a bottle of J.D.?

Sound like a plan?

That's kind of what I was getting at; I'm sure the Mapleshade stands are superb & will last a lifetime.

You know, my TV table (www.boltz.com) cost me $1K, and it isn't nearly as handsome or functional as the Mapleshade stands.

I say go for it!

If you could get the hardwood in that size, the rest is fairly straightforward, although the individual parts would still cost a pretty penny,

The hardware will probly have to come from Mapleshade, particularly the nice points.

Maybe.

My friend would love to get his hands on some thick solid maple, but we have to source the stock.

Thanks CM.
