probably a dumb question for all you scholars in here;-)...but ive never really thought about it. getting ready to buy new speakers within the next year (been checking out the m80ti and vp150 from axiom) and i was wondering if a center channel will make a big difference with 2-channel stereo...im not really interested in producing a complete surround sound system but i often hear that a center speaker is the next important speaker to have next to the mains and the sub but with 2-channel stereo, which is most of what i will be using, is it really a necessity. i guess im wondering if prologic II mode will actually be making much use of the center channel. thanks in advance.

No, stereo does not use a center channel, and adding one will make no difference at all.
On the other hand, Prologic II mode is a surround mode, not stereo. Prologic II, as with other surround modes, certainly uses a center channel, and you will miss a lot without one.
