Any thoughts on these two? subsonic can be had for $329 and Adire for $399. Am interested in which is better for music, not HT.

I would get the PSB subsonic 5i. It is probably the best self-powered subwoofer that can be had below $450 and the $329 price is excellent. It plays with low distortion throughout its range and can play loudly. It is excellent for music and for HT.

I called dmc-electronics.com, they have a cosmetic blemish 5i for $295. They're local to me, too.
How does it compare to the HSU VTF-2 that so many here rave about?

The PSB subsonic 5 doersn't play as loud as the HSU VTF-2, but it plays at a more constant output throughout its' frequency range.
If you have a small to medium-sized room the PSB is an excellent choice---plus you are saving $200 over the HSU.
If your room is a bit bigger and you want booming bass the HSU is a better choice.
Of course, the bass performance of all subwoofers depend on their room placement.
