I should note, Best Buy was featuring CHINESE DEMOCRACY vinyl front & center.

I still haven't listened to the whole thing, but track 1 is pretty good, there are a few others too.

For the most part, the album seems mucho, mucho, overproduced. The second track in particular wreaks of '90s hair-band, IMHO.

It's just interesting to hear this thing after all this time. GNR hit it big when I was about 18, now I'm 40, and I just don't listen to this kind of music too much anymore.

Given how long it took to put this thing together, I think Brian Jones & Gram Parsons might have laid down some tracks too.

What the heck, I've waited 13+yrs, put on 20lbs, got married, and am going gray, so what's a little more time?

Do I have to invest the same 15 years as Axl did on this?!?
My last marriage was shorter, yet cost nearly as much in the end as well.

Actually, I'm a huge GN'R fan. I haven't listened to the new album yet, although I've heard the various demos that have leaked over the years. So I know all but three of the songs.

At the GN'R board I frequent a lot of people have stated that the album has been mixed properly. That is, they didn't simply try to make it loud. The dynamics (difference in volume between loud and quiet) are present. It isn't compressed to hell like the new Metallica CD. I have to say that this prospect has me very excited to sit down and listen to the album. A well recorded hard rock CD - who'd have guessed? Maybe the industry is catching on, realizing that people are sick of buying a CD only to have it sound like a messy wall of noise when they hit play.

"My last marriage was shorter, yet cost nearly as much in the end as well."

LOL Nuck.

Dan - you're right about the GnR. I picked up the CD yesterday and spun it numerous times (albeit not on my good system) and there's no compression to be heard. It's actually a very well produced album. I read one review where they said that the Axl's voice was too low in the mix. I think this is good, actually. Not that I think he's not a good vocalist, I think that it's cool he resisted the temptation to make the album all about him.

I'll agree the album sounds good, but the intilal thrill has subsided a bit, and after the title track, Chinese Democracy, I don't think the rest of album has legs.

Or maybe I'm just not that into this music anymore?

Nah, I think you're right CM. Except for a few songs the album is tad underwhelming.

Shackler's Revenge is by far my favourite track.

Nuck, I believe the vinyl has been delayed in Canada until Dec 2nd. This is what HMV has told me, and other fans have said the same. It is out in the U.S. though. I'm not sure why the delay up here.

Shackler's is a cool song, but I hate the chorus.

Anyone see the new Hi Fi mag music reviews? Roy Haynes, Out of the Afternoon, gets a rating of perfect 10. I agree since it is on my list of all time best jazz albums.

Keep in mind that they only that they only gave a 9 to Santana's first and Abraxis, 2 of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Art, I figure you're the guy to ask (but everyone feel free to chime in), do you have a favorite performance or recording of Beethoven's Sonata No. 21?

I was just listening to a performance by Alfred Brendel that was almost life-altering.

Hmm, question is, have they screwed up the sound by remastering the discs with all the levels set to '11'???

Apparently they have done so with the Genesis albums...

It's very interesting Neil...this is before he had his current trio and the music was quite different, pianoless. I enjoy it very much but have to be in the mood for it. Recording quality is reference as well.
