New member Username: J2maxmin007Post Number: 8 Registered: Nov-08 | I was wondering is either this reciver: http://www.consumerdepot.com/products.asp?id=RD-6500D, or this one was a better choice: http://www.amazon.com/Sherwood-210-Watt-Stereo-Receiver-RX-4105/dp/B000MBUSD6 Both are either a set if Sony SS-B1000 5 1/8" Bookshelf Speakers or a pair of Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS100MDNT 5.1-Channel, mostly just for listening to music, thnx all! |

Buy the Stereo Receiver and then you will just need 2 bookshelf speakers and a sub. You can always get the sub later when more funds become available. |

While I agree that if it's a music-specific set-up you're after, 2-channel is your best choice, you were looking for a 5.1 set-up for about $300, if you don't already have a DVD/CD player, then any "on-sale" name brand DVD/CD player, coupled with a Sherwood A/V Receiver, and the Boston Acoustics 5.1 speaker pkg. will be a significant upgrade, IMHO, than your afforementioned set-up. If you do go down the 5.1 route, that Boston Acoustics deal @ Amazon is real sweet, the price is back down to $200 w/free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Acoustics-MCS100MDNT-5-1-Channel-System/dp/B000W9DO7U |

New member Username: J2maxmin007Post Number: 10 Registered: Nov-08 | thnk you, i have looked at all of these and i was also wondering about a whole system itslef. i found one a little more pricey then i want, but it seems to be good. i was wondering what u guys thought of it. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HT-TZ515T-5-1-Channel-Theater-Surround/dp/tech-data/B0015A6Y2C i was also wondering about kicking in some extra bass so i found this sub-woofer http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-Inch-Monitor-Subwoofer/dp/tech-data/B0002KVQBA and was wondering if these 2 components were compatible. Thnks again |

I am uncertain as to it's compatibility with the subwoofer, HTIBs can be a bit fussy about adding additional components. In all honesty, I doubt you'll find a better 5.1 set-up for a moderate-sized room than the Onkyo (or Sherwood) & Boston Acoustics for under $300. I'm not sure why you would want to spend more? Those Boston Acoustic speakers are marked down from $600, and currently sell at several other websites for over $400 + s/h. |
