Monday, August 11, 2008 - 16:47 GMT Neil, Sunday at the Village Vanguard is the reissue I have on 180gm vinyl and it's gorgeous. I don't believe Waltz for Debby has been reissued but I could be wrong about that. Impulse's 'Waltz' reissue on CD has the extra takes right in the middle of the tracks so you get two versions of the same thing one after the other which I find immensely unsatisfying! At least Verve put in the extras at the end of the disc so you choose to hear them again later which makes much more sense to me.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 03:35 GMT I just picked up some sealed vinyl, among them, which I just recently listened to; Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Black Sabbath - Paranoid Turned them up loud and proud and wow, for new vinyl, even disc washed them, they were noisy and hissy as hell. Jan explained to me that when these were produced there was a lot of recycled vinyl making it not for ideal playback on kits like ours. Tonight I just blasted away with a 180 gram Rhino Vinyl release of Machine Head by Deep Purple which I also bought sealed. The loudest music I ever played. No hiss, no hearing left either probably. I am going to have to keep on eye out for more of these RhinoVinyl releases. Past few days I have spun all vinyl; ChangesOneBowie The Alan Parsons Project - Eye in the Sky Willie Nelson and Family - Honeysuckle Rose Mannheim Steamroller - Fresh Aire V Cambridge Singers London Symphony Alice Cooper - Quiet Room (original) Grand Funk Railroad (original red album) The James Gang - Yer' Album (original) Oh, and one CD; Mudcrutch

Friday, August 15, 2008 - 03:14 GMT Bought some used vinyl a week or two ago and finally got around to spinning 'em - Pink Floyd - The Wall Eric Clapton - 461 Ocean Blvd Eric Clapton - Slowhand The Wall sounds phenominal, but has way too much surface noise. I'd love it if it was re-released on 180 gm vinyl like Dark Side. Maybe one day... Mike, Were those old sealed vinyl, or new stuff? I've got Paranoid and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (both new re-issues) and neither one has any problems. My In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was pretty warped, but I got it to slowly flatten out by placing it in the middle of my albums. The standard weight Paranoid doesn't nearly as good as the 180 gm version. If you have the 180 gm, maybe you got a bad one?
