We have an Emerson 19" LCD TV w/built-in DVD player in our RV (a hybrid trailer). We have trouble hearing the sound when the A/C is on or if it is raining. We can turn the volume up to its max, but still need to have the subtitles on (a pain!), plus then you can hear the sound OUTSIDE the trailer because it's up so loud. We don't want to be annoying other campers at night, and don't want to have to be reading subtitles all the time.
We'd like to hook up an inexpensive set of speakers to place next to the sofa and next to the dinette. Any suggestions?
Can this be done by simply hooking up two speakers to the AUDIO OUT jacks on the back of the TV? And is it possible to have the sound come out of both the TV AND the speakers at the same time?
You should check your owner's manual, since every set is slightly different in operation. Normally, audio out jacks are not going to drive loudspeakers without an amplifier in between. And some but not all TV's will mute the internal speakers when you switch to external speakers.
If the trailer electrics are 12v than a solution may be in the automotive line. If 110, other options open up. Are the Audio Outputs on the TV Variable or Fixed? If variable, run 'em to a T-amp and a pair of near field speakers.....
