I would like a good Powered sub for Home theater & music.

I was thinking of getting something with a 500watt built in amp but not sure which brand.

Any suggestions .

Not quite enough info.
Music or HT/effects?
Upper price limit?
Other system components?
that info would be a good start.

I would be using it for both music & HT
I would like to keep it as cheap as possible $500 or less.

I haven't got any of my other new speakers yet.
My new receiver is an Elite VSX-90TXV.

OOOPS! One other big item on the list:

How large is the room? I don't mean sq ft, but Volume. LxWxH in cubic feet.

As for a 500$ sub, look no further then a HSU Research VTF2mk3.
In SoCal, you can pick one up at there cheesey, industrial space offices for 10% off *pays for tax+! and the nice guy will help you load to your car::

Go the the HSU site and look at the room calculator / You MIGHT not even need to spend that much, if your system is in a small to medium sized room.

Than comes tuning / placement follies.
Also, is the wife on board with this?

I'm not sure how to calculate it but the room is 24x12x8.

I'll look @ the HSU site & check it out,I hope they ship because I live in Eaton,Ohio & won't be in So cal very soon.

Jamey- maybe not as big as you want but REL is a good price for the quality. Not the horsepower of the Hsu though. Another I have looked at is Epos ELS. Perhaps also not as big as you want for home theater.

Art- I guess if you insist on giving me the REL205 I can change my plans.

I was thinking of the REL T2 for $800 new, an Absolute Sound "Product of the Yr" '07. New, and close to what I paid for nothing on A-goN.

This is for 2 channel music with the Rega Mira 3, Apollo and Quad11L main system. Actually quite listenable but I am used to having a sub on small monitors after many years with the Rogers +sub.

I had a T series sub before the R. Very good just a little better for HT than the R and not quite as good for music (these are miniscule differences we're talkin' about)...though with the quads it may be a very good match.

I wonder how a good sub such as these w/ the Quads would compare to the sound of the Rega R5 for example?

Jamie, sorry for getting off the track :-)

Jamie, the room being even multiples of 8feet makes it a monster for placement.
BTW, your room at 2300ft3 is not all that large.
Put 'room mode calculator' in google and enter your room dimensions.
