Charles Lloyd Quartet - Rabo de Nube

Wow, Charles at 75 yrs! I only have Water is Wide on ECM but I have a copy of Forest Flower on vinyl that I played hundreds of times. A favorite from the olden days!
Listened to his Jimping the Creek on ECM with Geri Allen. I really enjoyed hearing her and Stephan Harris last year playing w/Buster Williams in Seattle.

We like that Shelby Lynn!
I have been looking for music that my wife also likes. She doesn't mind the jazz, esp mellow, but I am looking for common favorites. So far, her favorites from my top list is John Prine and Mark Knopfler.
She has been enjoying the new additions of Beck and Wilco.
She used to listen to the fm, "hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s and now", but has gotten bored of the same songs because they play that station at her work too.

Have not heard Maria Schneider but as you know, she won all sorts of awards and polls again in '07. Will have to try it. I normally don't go much for big band music.

I need to dig out my Ahmad Jamal lps. Good stuff. Saw him once in Seattle and he had an odd group, with Othello on steel drums. That was cool. Also hear Othello with Monty Alexander - Ivory and Steel.

Some of the artists you guys play are old favorites.
Maceo is always fun. Saw him at the Space Needle stadium a few years ago.
I have a huge Oscar Peterson pile of LPs, played often.

Bill Frisell- Have a Little Faith
A pretty strange album.

Abbey sings Abbey

Van Morrison- Keep it Simple

Milt Jackson Quartet on OJC w/Horace Silver

Ronnie Earl- Greatful Heart
an old favorite

Sometimes I find an album that I just have to play over and over. Maybe because it is what I consider a great work, but sometimes it is not really so out of the ordinary, but just hits a nerve.
Recently I keep playing this over and over-
Cyrus Chestnut- Soul Food
w/ Christian McBride, Lewis Nash, Stephan Harris, Marcus Printup, Wycliffe Gordon, Gary Bartz and James Carter.

Last year it was Scott Hamilton w/Bill Charlap that I played every day.

Now playing-
Dr John- N'Awlinz- Dis, Dat or D'udder

Santana Live at Montreux 2004

Blu-ray DTS HD5.1
Joining him and his great band were Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Ravi Coltrane, Idrissa Diop, John McLaughlin, Salvador Santana, Steve Winwood, patti Austin, Sylvia Sharp, Nile Rodgers and Angelique Kidjo. Apart from one or two numbers that seem to take a bit to get together, this was an excellent concert, musically and sonically. Almost 3 hrs of great entertainment.

Of all the recordings I have heard (I own 7) the one I cannot stand is the Bernstein. I know Mahler fans owe a great debt to Bernstein because he (among others) promoted Mahler's music long before it became as popular as it is today. The problem I have with it is that the tempi are extremely slow, which turns an already long and gigantic work into a painfully ponderous and heavy-handed experience for me. At almost 94 minutes, Bernstein's recording is the longest by any major conductor, to my knowledge. In contrast, Art's '63 Klemperer is a blistering 79 minutes. I'm not saying tempi are the only criteria for judging a performance, but with this Bernstein I just can't get past it.

My latest is the Boulez Live on HD DVD (1985). The old guy looks like he's going to keel over any second; music's good though. I am also enjoying the SACD of Kaplan/Vienna on DGG and SACD of Tilson Thomas/San Francisco. Both are gorgeous sonically.

However, my two favorites remain Solti/Chicago and Rattle/Bermingham. Solti for exuberance and Rattle for precision.

Great post John.

A bit off track, I poorly judged a recording earlier.
I listened to Rush 'Permenant waves on Master recordings earlier.
In retrospect, this wa donw with a drop and lpay setup, ok?
I had a chance to move thingas arouns a little tonight, and the small moves I made were very good.

Keeo in mind that this only temporary, but...\

I moved the Psb tower much closer to the wall to reinforce their body, and got back about there 34Hx in room, for thr first time.
Cohefence is gone, no depth, but a broad stage.

Now put Rush on that stage.

This recording is doing everything now.
Wide and Large, just like the show.
Outstanding recording, when you can grab it.
Pricey, for fans only.

My Classe is eatin it!

The best that I have ever heard Rush!

Interesting live music. You can really hear the plates and glasses in the background. I keep expecting someone to complain about the food. LOL. The music is exceptional, as always from Haden recordings.
