Art, in subsequent listens to Ravi's quartet I am really appreciating just how good the other players are. Luis Perdomo's piano work is superb.

Evanescence - Fallen C

Continuum - Music By John Mayer vinyl

I have not kept up posting what I have been playing as I keep rerunning the same reference material as I continue to tweak my system's isolation. Swapping around and adding tennis and racket balls under the gear. Fun stuff when it works!

I think the Admin is working with us to an extent on this and this too shall pass.

If not I might show up on AK or somewhere else. I will let you guys know.

Jazz Divas Gold

Very nice 2 cd set.

I have passed a milestone...for me anyway. I now have over 2000 titles on CD. I have about 400 in various wish lists and queue's online.

Next I will work on record collection. I'm pretty picky with records and won't just buy a lot just to pick through as I just don't have room for that. I pick through them on site and choose what I want and let others do the same.

The more I listen to this album, the more I have come to realize that the old Lizz is still there, but is simply developing into herself musically.

I consider my music library to be my retirement...when (if) I retire I will have plenty of music to enjoy without buying but very little more.

I said "if" relative to retirement as last week we received news that one of our dear friends and former colleagues is terminally ill...she is a wonderful person. Life's too short to take anything for granted.

Lots of great stuff. Too far behind to comment but many of my favorites listed.

I was having cd filing problems. I put them in those 'case logic' books but I was having problems finding what I wanted, so I went through and re- organized the books beter by category. For example:
Blue Note Classics.
Piano leaders solo duo or trio separate from
piano leaders with horns.
Some artists nearly fill their own book or two to a book. 42 books about 30 cds each.

That should be enough to retire on, but like Art, I have a big wish list. With the vinyl I have more than I could ever listen to but there is always something new. Both new music and new discoveries.
It is an addiction!

In the last few weeks I have bought:
Tierney Sutton- Dancing in the Dark,
Joe Lavano- 2 cds w/Hank Jones
Pat Metheney Trio- Day Trip
Michael Brecker- Pilgrimage
Wilco- Sky Blue Sky
Lila Downes
Nashville Bluegrass Band- 20 yr Blues
(because I love that fiddle, Stewart Duncan on John Prine, Mark Knopfler and Iris Dement albums)
Herbie Hancock- Possibilities
Bettye Lavette

So much for having enough music!

OK, I've done garage sales, estate sales, Half Price Books, etc. Today I key LPs in the local Craigslist search and find and an ad posted 15 minutes earlier, "Box of LPs, mostly '60s. $10. So I email and get a call back in 10 minutes. Sandy lives 10 minutes away. So for $10 I get a wheelbarrow full of records. Close to 200 in all. All of Peter Paul and Mary, many Simon and Garfunkel, Moody Blues, CCR, BS&T, Chicago, Pearl by Joplin, Elton John, Mathis, Rogers, Willie, even the boxed set of the rock operas Jesus Christ Superstar, near mint. There is a bunch of Walt Disney, a Pinocchio picture disc included. Some of these have mold issues which I will either deal with or move out.

Another stack of records are mostly classical or guitar specials. These are really moldy and will be living in the garage until I decide what to do with them.

The last box had albums, like photo albums, of various sets of orchestral or soundtrack box sets in 78s. There are also a number of such box sets in 45s.

Not bad for $10.

Art- Chick Corea and Return to Forever - Light as a Feather

Another old favorite! That got me on the kick of getting every Flora and Airto album. I have a double live album burried in the vinyl somewhere. Need to attack that mess soon. They got all shuffled in storage and return.

I was very lucky that they made it through and I got them back. My friend stored them for me and his wife had them stacked into an old travel trailer out back. When he died at 62, she was moving away and told me to come and get them. Luckily I was in town when that all transpired. For about 18 years I spend at least 6 months per yr away from Alaska.

KC, I liked it so much I played again today!

I found an new record shop in Dallas, "Good Records" in lower Greenville. Mostly new stuff.

Picked up all vinyl;

Lou Reed - Transformer (Outstanding recording, plays great on my kit and JV's!)

Radiohead - In Rainbows (they originally released this as a web download only, pay what you want for it, now available in the states on vinyl) Currently spinning on the TT.

Thom Yorke - The Eraser audiophile 180 gram vinyl (there is a 3 seperate re-release of this, all remixes on 33 1/3 LPs)

Tool - Opiate

They had Tool - Lateralus also, but not wanting to spend $40 for one more copy I held off (for now).

Radiohead is very well recorded Art. I do not think you will be disappointed. They were the "Cover of Rolling Stone" a couple of issues ago. Good read too.

I think it is Colin Greenwood who does not like Audiophiles. Thinks we are trying to re-capture our teens. If he hung with me for a while I guess I could understand that as much classic rock that I spin.

Funny how they can feel that way yet produce audiophile quality recordings...

MW, love that Brothers in Arms CD.

KC, the Charlie Haden recordings are superb!

Art/KC, I previewed that new McCoy Tyner CD and frankly did not care for it. I found Tyner's playing to be way too far in the background, with Lovano just blaring over the top of him. May have been the MP3 through the computer, so I'm interested in your impressions.

BB King - Live at Cook County Jail
Nirvana - Nevermind
Led Zeppelin - 4
The Doors - LA Woman (German Import)

All on vinyl.

Its the first time I've been able to spin vinyl this year. Huge thanks to Mike Wodek for the BB King album. It plays great, despite the cover being destroyed by a combination of rain and UPS ignorance.

The Doors LA Woman is a must have for any Doors fan with a turntable. I've never heard them sound this good. An impeccable pressing and sound quality.

Mike Wodek,
The vinyl version of BB King sounds better overall than the CD. The main difference is that the CD version sounds compressed in a way - smaller soundstage with less space around everything, and slightly flatter. If your interested in a copy, PM me.
