in the NAIM-forum the member "munch" said, he had his CD5x on ball bearing cups, ball bearings and then on a NAIM FRAIM glass shelf, all resting on IKEA´s CORRAS.
This sounds cool to me. The ball bearings and the ball bearing cups I can get at tomtomaudio.
But where can one possibly get a single NAIM FRAIM glass shelf???
I called musicline-Germany (Naim-distribution) and they told me it would be difficult to get one single glass shelf....if, then only via England...
Alternative:
I could get the ball-bearing-stuff and have a glass shelf custom-made... But then, which kind of glass? How hard, how thick...any specs on that are known???
I made myself an isolation-platform for the CD5x with a 20mm MDF-wood-shelf with very nice spikes and cups from a very good german brand (in-akustik), see pic. 2 spikes front, one middle-back.
Then I took again three of those goodies and put them on the EINA-rack, again 2 fronts, 1 middle-back.
Very nice. Stable. First impression was very very good. More definitions, details...clearer..tighter bass..more on the point.
I had to remove the isolation-platform from under the CDP... Smile
The sound just wasnt "right" anymore...after listening for some days...it was kind of harsher...although I kinda liked the tightness...
Then I did a A/B-listening session...the platform had to go. Bass and resolution was clearly better without it. With the platform it sounded, especially at louder volumes, like trapped in a big "can"...I dont know if that is an appropriate comparison...
Anyway, I tried, errored and learnt...
What was a huge improvement though: the spikes under the EINA (same as on the platform).
I wish you'd just sit back and enjoy it now! Naim customers usually do that. they don't keep messing around with their brand new kit. They simply enjoy it for at least a few months and then mess around with the connections and setup and enjoy it again for another 6 months, then clean the connections and enjoy for another year and then they come back for more kit!
Don't I wish! I get no commission nor bonus, just a small weekly bit of pocket money, some of which I end up spending on the guys' lunch! I really do this for the fun of it...and to the despair of my mum! The wife understands that this is a lost cause of course.
