Mark Knopfler- Crimson,
the new one sounds like out-takes from Shangrala.
I guess the grammies mean nothing when Knofler didn't get one for
All the Road Runnin.

Marcia Ball- So Many Rivers.
Her Show at the "Sky Church" (in that wierd bld at the Seattle Space Needle) is in my top 10 live concerts of all time. Like all followers of the "Mardi Gra" style, she really knows how to have fun makin music. As does her great band. That guitar and tenor sax player are rockin!
A true disciple of Professor Longhair. I recommend as her best: "Let Me Play With Your Poodle".

Dr John- Anutha Zone.
This is one of the best albums of decade. A throwback to his very early unique "Gri Gri" style. After going thru all shades of blues, pop, funk, Mardi Gras, and jazz, he finally cut another in the unique style that he introduced back in the early 1970s.
This is one of my reference discs.

Gary Burton-Pat Metheny Reunion
Well, it may have been 'more of the same' which is great, but this is a new Metheney. He changes from year to year more than Burton.

Dave McKenna, Scott Hamilton, Jake Hanna- 2 albums.
No Base Hit
Double Play

Bobby Hutcherson- For Sentimental Reasons with Renee Rosness

Monty Alexander- Live at the Iridium

Kenny Dorham- Una Mas on Blue Note 1963, w/ Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams. This sounds like an Art Blakely or Horace Silver classic.

Roy Haynes- Out of the Afternoon, w/ Roland Kirk, Tommy Flannagan, two of the best ever...an essential album.

Hank Mobley- Soul Station- another Blue Note classic from 1960. Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Art Blakley!!!!

Metheny/Mehldau -- Quartet

Vinyl
Urge Overkill - Exit the Dragon
Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver
Frank Sinatra - My Way
Rolling Stones - Undercover
Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet (White Vinyl)
Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat
Radiohead - OK Computer
Imported By EMI Music Canada SIS
(reference material IMO) This is a very HQ recording, quiet, challenging for any system. The vocals maintain their presence and authorithy on Exit Music (for a film) as the electronics kick in around it. Thunder, stadium effects, all going on here. I could go on but I am still listening to it. :-)

Marisa was studying Opera in Italy and wrote songs for a hobby. When she went home to Brazil on vacation she presented her songs and got discovered. She recorded and sold a half million copies of Rose and Charcoal.

Nuck or Jan, Ever hear Journey on my kit?

Didn't think so, neither did I until tonight. WOW!!!

Journey - Frontiers Vinyl

Yesterday was a vinyl fest for me;

After Frey;

Command Stereo Check Out (I passed the test, though 50 and 30 Hz did drop off in volume. Could be my ears I suppose.)

George Winston - WInter Into Spring
This used to be in my rotation (on CD) for testing out gear. It was a real treat on vinyl.

10cc - Decetptive Bends
"The Things We Do For Love" is on this LP but it is nowhere near as facinating as "The Original Soundtrack".

Led Zeppelin - Presence
After the six LP Box set this one sort of lacks.

Where's Kevin? I see they are having another heat wave in Fairbanks -- up to the low 30's the last time I looked.

KC, I listened to that Anutha Zone by Dr. John that you ran up there the other night and it's one of those that grows on you. I initially disliked it, then sort of liked it, then about the third time I was nearly addicted. When I get off the PC and get the recording on my set I'll probably be nuts over it. There's just no excuse for this hobby. LOL!

Art, Carvin Jones is a kick to see live if he happens your way. I am not recommending the recorded music. [Also, Amazon's offerings seem to be a bit pricey through the privates.] But then I've always preferred blues live. I just think of all the music genres that blues is one of the most amenable to hearing live -- JMHO.
