Sunday, December 23, 2007 - 18:22 GMT First of all, I apologize if this post is not in the correct area. I looked around and could not find a better spot. Here is my (basic) question. A friend and I have made these speaker stand to my specification. They are made of heavy gage aluminum. I want to fill the center column with material to add mass and then spike them top and bottom. I thought about using basic fine sand, concrete or some type of medium gravel. Am I going the right direction? Any leads would of course be appreciated. Thanks, Michele

Sunday, December 23, 2007 - 18:34 GMT . Sand would be fine. I wouldn't recommend concrete and gravel is too expensive when sand will do just as well if not better. You can mix some cat litter in with the sand or fill the bottom half with sand and the top with litter. Some speakers will sound best with top spikes and some will sound best when coupled to the stand with PlastiTak. Experiment before you make a final decision. You might also want to put "loudspeaker placement" in a search engine to find some techniques for getting the best sound in your room. .

Tuesday, December 25, 2007 - 02:37 GMT Pfff...I have plenty of the clumped stuff. We have a ferret. JV: It looks like sand will do the job then. I will definitely yes definitely spike the bottom then decide on the tops. Thanks. Michele
