Sorry Christopher. Those who know me, are aware that I am close to Obsessive/Compulsive. I am real close to washing my hands 20x/day and making sure all the doors open and close a couple times, before I actually use it.

Good job, Trevor.
What kind of amp /speakers?
I don't frequent the store(s), so I am not instantly familiar.
Is the pic compressed? The drivers look oval/ and the TV looks like a 4:3, not a 16:9 widescreen!

My pic was with a Canon EOS camera, and the old 20-35 2.8 @20mm, thus the 'leaned back' look of the speakers...I was 20" from the floor. I avoided on-screen flash by using a reflector, the flash aimed up and the reflector bouncing the light to the back of the room. Standard wedding type setup....

Gee leo, that sort of explains the slightly washed out top of the picture. Relax, its a really good shot I am just messin' with you.

Nice job of shadow avoidance. I used to do a lot of B&W which was fun, Rolleiflex SLR. Then kids came along and that hobby sort of fell off of the map for me.

I never used much higher than ASA 200 film so the tripod you mentioned was a good friend of mine.

Trevor, always grab the corner of your pic when resizing. That way you can keep the symmetry.

I'll give everyone a quick and easy way to do the photo resizing. No special installations, no websites. I'll refer everyone to the power of Paint (free component of Windows). Under the Image tab there is something called Stretch/Skew. A 50% stretch in both directions will reduce dimensions by half obviously. Do as much as is needed to get both dimensions under the 600 pixel mark. Then you're golden.

My question exactly::How IS that Emotive gear?
I found reviews on AudioHolics, but haven't yet anywhere else>
Nice shot BTW,
In the days of CRT's you had to shoot at 1/60th to avoid the 'flyback' trace. I don't think thats a problem with fixed pixel displays.
If your shutter was a little 'slow', you got it anyway!

Leo, The amp has worked fine for me. I'm not a audio expert so giving you details on how things sound with or without it I don't know I would notice any difference except when things are pushed hard I probably would be able to tell the differences between the Yamaha being strained vs. the Emotiva running much smoother.

Cool Art. Looks like my retro tuner in the "vinyl room" for occasional late night (Jazz with Bob Parlocha). Also looks like an old Yamaha that I passed on to a friend.

I saw an old console stereo laying around in a hallway a little while ago at work. I wonder who's it is and what they would want for it.

What if I switched out the speaker drivers, and replaced the electronics with something like an Arcam Solo somehow?

The wheels are spinning...

My "big dog" system sounds better than my "good ole boy" system.....but not by as much as you might think. It cost literally 30-40 times more and might (might?)be 10% better. Because I'm putting together some inventory on the cheap I can swith out for max synergy and get VERY nice systems for next to nothing. I do need some speaker stands in various heights so I'll be working on that. Also need a couple of other pairs of interconnects, rule being that they cannot cost more than $99 per pair. I'm using the same Liberty cable speaker wire on all of them.

Kevin::
Oppo video performance is super. But, make no mistake about it, this is not either flavor of HD....The upsample/upscale on this unit is usually better than that available on TV's, though there are probably exceptions. My DVD's of the old Avengers show clearly cheesy sets. New stuff and good prints show the most improvement. Forbidden Planet is stunning on the 60" SXRD Sony....non XBR, at that.
I have only 2-channel sound, so no evaluation of all the sound options is possible and I don't have external DAC's. That being said, the audio performance is better than many universal players, but not as good as a dedicated CD player, even on the 500->600$ level of some NAD/ Cambridge Audio / players. The Naim I heard as the demo source for my MG1.6qr's was clearly superior, and easily distinguished...and the amp used was the same Rotel I own.....
Helpful?

http://www.classic-audio.com/

I had an old Kenwood KR-7070A before I got all my 'new' stuff. Although it wasn't 'audiophile' quality, it served its purpose and lasted for decades (and was cheap as hell when I got it, along with my other stuff, on the way back to the world from Vietnam). Plus the fact that I worked at Kenwood for a little while was a plus because I had everything done for free...

OK, so I will try again, this time after Mike sized the pics for me, then found out what I was doing wrong(D'oh!)

The room is barren, the pics are from a dime store camera, etc.
The stuff is stacked poorly, but there it is.
In fact, maybe I can get some input on fixing the room a bit when I finish it this winter.

A frontal, viewed across the room, as opposed to the length of the room, where I will end up.

So lots to be done.
Unsure how to display the goods, especially when the great huge honkin ca300 amp comes into play and the associated rats nest of wiring that comes with bi-amping dissimilar units.

This may be fun until Mrs. Nuck helps, then it has to make sense.
However, so long as I actually finish the room, she will not care much.

Then I can get down to some serious fun musical enjoyment!

Input is appreciated!

Actually, CM, thats as far as I got putting up the new ceiling that you see here.
There is an archway to be installed between the 2 sections of the room, and I had considered trying to make that studio area as 'dead' as possible.

I appreciate all the kind words and thanks for the replies. It took me over a decade to be where I am now.

M.R- As you already might know, it's never good enough, and those subtlties will hunt you to go mad if you resist the temptations to try out something new. Yes, I've passed a point where there's no way of return. Help! I better find myself a wife to put me in a collar! j/k

Art- As a matter of fact, I almost cleaned up a store where I got most of my electronics. They were going out of business. I made the most expensive single purchase on that day, including that clear audio master reference.

I appreciate all the kind words and thanks for the replies.

Nuck-I had KEF in HT setup and put those 802D for music. Most likely, they will stay there for the time being. The srrounding area is quite sufficient enough to give some bereathing space for those 802Ds. I've tried different positions before I complete the A/V set up, but couldnt find much of a difference in sound. I decided to keep them look clean instead of having those two "bears" sticking out their bellies up front.

Nonotheless, I'm satisfied with the sound that I'm getting from this position. If I ever get bored, I might try something else in another room.

Nick- I guess I wont be this easy to do what I'm doing if I'm married with kids. Well, I'm enjoying my time as a single. Probably, that single status will change sooner or later. Hmm.. now, you got me worried. Quite a way to get back at me! I should play some COD, blow things up, to clear my mind and get that ying-yang balanced out.

Well, I've had quite a lot of speaker sets before I settled down with current setup. When I was about 15 years younger, I was a bargain hunter on a "mission impossible" With extremly limited budget, I was trying to reproduce the sound of audiostat speakers from one of my friends' father's. I guess that was a turning point for me. I couldnt believe that reproduced sounds could be "that" good.

Anyway, my first pair of speakers were JBL PA speakers. I met a guy who was trying to sell his JBL PA speakers, and tricked me into this " I get these professional grade speakers" on a bargain, hence, it should sound better than those "skinny" speakers from audiostat.

Well, as you might can guess, I was hurting my ears for quite a while, strongly believe that my small apartment is the problem, not these "professional" speakers. Bad memories, when someone asks me that " so, what speakers did you have in the past," kicks-in.

Nick- offically, you are on the second strike

Quite a nice intro David.

What do you listen to?

How much live music have you experienced?

Did you have a chance to demo the gear you bought on close out against other gear or is it gear you knew you wanted as you had heard it before and the close out sale made it a no brainer for you?

I am not trying to be pushy or nosey, but the more we know about your tastes the more we can advise you on. You have wonderful set ups!

Read the forum, your gear is great, but reading the forum may help you get the most out of it.

Did you have those hide-away media racks custom built? Sweet!

M.W- Thanks for your comment. Originally, I was powering those KEF Reference 205s with Lexicon gears for 5.1 HT use, and I was listening music in the other room with much smaller setup with Focal cobalt 826 and 826S (I ended up with both pairs for some reasons, long story...sigh..).

What I purchased from that close-out sale were MBL preamp 5011, MBL poweramp 8011M, Clear Audio Master Reference turntable, and a pair of 802D.

Basically, I bought a whole new system for music. I was quite familiar with B&W 802D and Clear Audio Master Reference and it was no-brainer for me to jump on the deal. And, I was recommended to try MBL gears in my own place (they came to my place and did the whole set-up) and I liked it. So, they ended up in my place as well.

About the placement of those B&W 802D, if you ask me why I didn't give much of breathing room around those speakers, I did try in many different positions with different furnishing before I settled on this set-up. To my own ears, the difference in sound quality wasn't significant enough to give up the current clean look setup. Eventually, I will try some other things to improve my system's sound quality, of course, but for now I'm fine with current set-up. Actually, I bet there are tons of people out there who can tell me "this is not the way it should be done", or "you need to do this way", etc... Hey, it is all about having fun for me. I'm not seeking a perfection, nor do I believe it is possible with current technology.

I'm just trying to enjoy my music with different characteristics my gears will show me.

You can't blame people who prefer BMW over Benz, or Ford over Chevy for that matter, right?

I just have a great appreciation for music and am grateful that there are more than handsful of gears out there that I can try on. I just love this stuff! Oh boy, I got carried away. I assure you it doesnt happen that often!

Mostly, I listen to classics (LP), jazz, and vocals. Most of my favorites are live-albums.

I just met a guy with 30 different tube-amps! He's over 70 and trying to reduce the size of his collections. I'm gonna pay him a visit and see if I can get my hands on any of his gears.

P.G- It is not to impress anyone but I certainly apprecaite your kind compliment.

P.L- No worries. You don't have to cook! I'm pretty good at cooking! Living by myself for more than 15 years, I've learned to cook many dishes! Cooking is another hobby of mine, as a matter of fact.

Nick- Yeah, I still have several gears from Rotel. I still love the rotel sound. I used to prefer rotel sound over nad, naim, and rega. I didn't find it to be bright. But, later on, Ilearned to appreciate more soft, warm and laid back sounds, such as classe and naim.

To me, they are all great. I wish I had my own shop to play with all these gears all day long...Hmm...Maybe, I should...

Nick- From my own experience, I found RBM-1095 to be quite good for the money. Especially, if you pair it up with a high-end preamp, you will benefit from it like no others. While, it serves the purpose of HT, there's no compromise in hifi sounds with a decent preamp. my two cents.

I have three rooms filled up with different gears. So far, you've seen two.

Nick- Probably, you noticed these ProAc speakers from my second set of pictures. Another set that I can recommend is ProAc D15 with AVI S21M1 Int.Amp. I had this setup for quite a long time for classics. this pari has quite addictive sound. The source was Marantz SA-8400. I chose this player for SACD play only.Upload

And the hits just keep on comin'!
DM, it seems to me that you DO have an audio shop right there!

Also, your home looks to be terrific, very clean and tasteful, thanks for all the pics.

On a self-indulgant note, when you mentioned Classe, what pieces have you had from them?

Nick- As a matter of fact, I used to have a projector but decided not to use it, solely due to my own taste. And,I replaced the screen with a skily fabric as a decor. So, you might think it''s a screen (maybe, it can used as such) but it's not By the way, If you are familair with rotel, and using them as powering source, let me tell you one more time, there's a huge chance that you will feel like your "whole" system has been upgraded, not just an amp, but cd player, cable, etc..., by simply replacing your amp with AVI's. At least, that's what I've experienced. If you ever get a chance, give AVI amp a try. You will be surprised!

Nuck- I used to have classe gears right before I changed my setup to lexicon setup with KEF. I was running B&W 803D with classe CA-M400s, CP-500, and CDP-102. I replaced them with lexicon and esoteric-x-01. I was pretty happy with the setup, just that I didnt wante to pass up a chance to try lexicon and different gears. I suppose it became more of "sound" than "music" that I got interested in at one point.

Nuck,

This isn't f@#kin' rocket science.
Save the pics to My Pictures. Open them on Paint. Resize them from there. Save again. When you post, click on the Upload Image or Attachment.

How can I figure this out and you can't? I'm a little slow.

I was in Japan at that time, and asked a dealer to set-up a system for me. So, I audition those two systems and decided to go with Naim. Ever since I came back to the U.S, I've been struggling to have a decent set-up due to my job (requires me to move around alot). Last set-up I got was those old infinity speakers and "free" pioneer elite receiver. Ah, and a pair of paradigm and a cc450. I'm holding myself jump into another decent set-up because of uncerntainty of my staying period here in Arizona. Since I wasn't familair with neither of paradigm or infinity speakers, I was trying to set-up a system (as cheap as possible) which can produce 80-90 % of quality sound that I used to hear from Naim. I must admit that it is far from easy.

I was looking for a system that suitable for a relatively small place, and I audition two systems built on "one-brand" theme. Naim and SystemAudio

I found Naim better with image resolution in higher frequency, but a better tonal quality found from SystemAudio. At the end, I chose Naim for better image resolution and solid lower frequency over smoothness from SystemAudio.

I'm still struggling with how to describe what I hear, but after I consulted with a dealer, those are the terms associated with my own findings.

Stu, if he couldn't get it from my instructions, well...

At least give him an "A" for wanting to, and about an A- to B+ for gear.

stryvn, posting his pictures is not helping him, I think he needs an intervention.
