Bronze Member Username: KothrushPost Number: 13 Registered: Feb-05 | I have yamaha 5.1 receiver from 3-4 years back. It is driving two JBL bookshelf speakers (I know, not the best combination). Now, I have little more money to spare for my speakers and receiver, so need to think about how to expand this set-up economically. Things I required in new expanded set-up: 1. Receiver with HDMI capability, this means I won't be able to use my current receiver , should I get little higher end yamaha or something else like H/K, denon , which would, if possible, work with my JBL bookshelves too ? 2. I need 5.1 set-up. I have 2 JBL bookshelves, which I can use as rear channels. Should I get front JBLs too? or should I go with something like polk/paradigm/B&W etc ? So, what would be a good way to expand my current set-up ? or should I start from scratch ? If I can expand within $1000 it would be great, I can stretch my budget to $1500 max. Thanks for your input. |

I think it's important to have matching center and fronts. Considering your budget, I would consider Paradigm speakers (one of the best value per dollar brands, IMO). AS for receivers, out of the brands you mentioned I would opt for H/K, although some people on this forum have suggested the H/K-Paradigm pairing is not the best. Eventually I would get rid of the JBLs and get matching rears. I'm a big fan of having a balanced system. As most people will suggest, let your ears decide for you! Audition lots of different setups. Do you have a good dealer near you? |
