I just picked up a pioneer vsx-D412 receiver the other day, and was wondering if I could hook up a seporate amp for my surround, it has 5.1 hookups on the back, is there a way to hook up an amp to these? I would like an amp for my center and rears. and if so is there any 3 channel amps out there?

What sort of 5.1 hookups. Analog out? Pre amp out? Speaker out?

Then I assume you also have 5.1 analog in. If that's the case, those jacks are fixed level, meant to be used with a SACD/DVD-A player and are not useable as pre amp outputs to an amplifier. In most cases, unless the jacks are labelled "pre out", you would use the amplifier stages built into your receiver. How does your owner's manual describe these outputs?

the manual says they are used for an external processor or as you said.

Unless you have something labelled "pre amp out", you are stuck with the amplifiers already in the receiver.
