Gold Member Username: JakeyplaysbassSt. Louis, MO Post Number: 1873 Registered: Jul-05 | david, i understand its not much money but its going in my dorm room and will probably get beatup anyways. i just need something that will sound ok for the price. i know dayton makes a powered 12 for around $150...ill probably end up picking that up. |
Silver Member Username: DmitchellOttawa, Ontario Canada Post Number: 195 Registered: Feb-07 | You could probably pick up an entry level Velodyne or Polk for around that price. I have a Velodyne VX-10 (10" driver) and I think they go for between 200-300 bucks. |

Silver Member Username: DmitchellOttawa, Ontario Canada Post Number: 196 Registered: Feb-07 | I was just waiting for that... I knew it would either be Jan or Nuck. |

Silver Member Username: StefanomVienna, VA United States Post Number: 810 Registered: Apr-06 | The Dayton would still be high on my list, but another option worth looking at: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4104344 It won't impress audiophiles, but JBL does know a little something about rocking out a dorm room. If you can stretch your budget a little, AV123.com sells a decent subwoofer, the X-sub, for 199+ shipping that would represent a qualitative step up from the JBL offering or Dayton. |

Jake, these are all good suggestions. I would go with an 8' or 10', the 12's in the price range will just be mud. If I remember my college days correctly, it mattered little anyhow. |
Silver Member Username: DmitchellOttawa, Ontario Canada Post Number: 197 Registered: Feb-07 | I don't remember my college days, correctly or otherwise... How about this? http://fluance.com/fldb12in200w.html |
Gold Member Username: NuckPost Number: 8057 Registered: Dec-04 | 50 lb fluance or 32 lb Jbl? |
Silver Member Username: DmitchellOttawa, Ontario Canada Post Number: 198 Registered: Feb-07 | I'd opt for the heavyweight in this case. |

This cat does it right and clean. ![]() I've used Dayton and Bash for my amps for my subs and can't complain about either. That Dayton setup will do you good. |
Gold Member Username: JakeyplaysbassSt. Louis, MO Post Number: 1877 Registered: Jul-05 | thanks for the help guys. i might pick up that fluance. i didnt really want to spend that much because im redoing my whole bass guitar setup (shi-ts expensive)but i think i can get away with it. Also, how are RCF speakers? the only reason im doing all of this is because i recieved 5 used RCF speakers from my uncle. they were used in a virgin megastore in chicago and are from around 2001-2002. they have a tweet and a 5 1/2. ill take some pics tomorrow and post them. i looked on thr RCF website but all of there new stuff looks slightly different, so i dont really know what i have. thanks again. |
Silver Member Username: StefanomVienna, VA United States Post Number: 813 Registered: Apr-06 | I'd opt for the X-sub over the Fluance. Might not go quite as deep, but it will likely beat it in terms of quality. |
Gold Member Username: JakeyplaysbassSt. Louis, MO Post Number: 1880 Registered: Jul-05 | alright thanks man. also the RCF speakers have a tweet and a 5 1/4. not 5 1/2. |
Silver Member Username: LeonskiPost Number: 152 Registered: Jan-07 | There just happens to BE a 12' sub....it was a DIY by non-other than Nelson Pass>>>>> www.passdiy.com/pdf/el-pipe-o.pdf Of course, it is not 12' diameter, but tall and would be a stretch for most dorm rooms. With proper amps, a lease breaker by any definition. Technically, it believe it is considered a 1/4 wave transmission line? |
