Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 02:12 GMT Hey all... Need to connect a computer (1/8" stereo jack) to a stereo receiver. Total cable length is about 25 feet. Which is the best option: A. Shielded 25' 1/8" stereo plug to RCA L/R. B. 25' headphone extension cable (1/8" stereo plug to 1/8" stereo jack); then a 1/8" plug to RCA L/R "Y" connector. I'm leaning toward B, since A, even though shielded, is prone to noise. Any informed opinions?

Thursday, July 12, 2007 - 20:30 GMT Andrew, why do you think that 25ft of shielded cable, after a 1/8" to RCA is going to pick up noise?

Monday, July 16, 2007 - 10:23 GMT Andrew, the shielding should cut out RFI provided it's earthed at one of the ends. However, the more important thing here is the configuration of the cable. If it's inductive, that 25 feet could be too high a load for a computer card. The easier load will most likely be the headphone extension. That's probably what I would plump for. Regards, Frank.
