Originally sold by JC Penney from the mid 70's and late 80's, MCS was actually manufactured by Technics (Panansonic/Matsushita). I assume JC Penney didn't want to pay a licensing fee to Matsushita and alas, MCS was formed. MCS stands for Modular Component Systems. That's as much as I know, hope it helps. Maybe someone else knows more. Also realize some of my information may be false. http://audiokarma.org/forums/printthread.php?t=28984&pp=40 "From what I've determined over the years and my own observations, the MCS was largely Panasonic made, as was Technics gear which was well regarded during the mid-late 70's and still is as vintage. Others thought some MCS gear was perhaps made by Pioneer, who made certain pieces for Radio Shack and others. The larger (big boys) in the line up of MCS receivers from that era are still well regarded today." |
