I have an HK AVR230 receiver with Energy Take 5.2 speakers.
(a) The dialogues are sometimes at a very low volume. If I increase the volume then things can prettty loud during action scenes. The DVD is linked to the receiver with a digital coax. I was thinking of manually increasing the volume of the center channel. I just wanted to know if it was kosher to tinker with the volumes?
(b) Another doubt, what are the pros and cons of setting the speakers to "Large" or "Small"? Thanks.

Aviator - Take a look at your speakers. Do they look "large" to you? No, not unless somebody at the factory screwed up or you are ... never mind. Set the speakers to small and run the test tone to establish correct levels then adjust the center to your liking. Nobody will tell. Make certain the center speaker is pointing its face directly at your listening position.
