Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 4222 Registered: Feb-05 | These 6 1/2 insignias can be had at my local bestbuy for $63 plus tax. I have read good stuff about them for the price. How do they compare to the Athena Bookshelf speakers or these Radiants which look the same : http://www.radiient.com/s.nl/it.A/id.5/.f?sc=2&category=32 Ive decided to get a HSU-STF-2 or VTF-2 MK2 or 3 for my SUB. Just deciding on the bookshelves now... |

Mid range is acceptable. Bass extension is not much, but not boomy either. They image well. The only other speaker that sounded good at circuit city was a Klipsch bookshelf that costed way more. The Insignias are not magnetically shielded though and they are large. Worth trying at home. |
Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 4228 Registered: Feb-05 | I went ahead and picked up the insignias at bestbuy for $63 plus tax. They definetly do look nice and sound excellant for the money spent. This was definetly the best $63 dollars i have spent in a long time. The bass is lacking sort of with the HK-3480 that i have. It sounds more punchy with the vmax feature but really ruins the overall ambiance and sound. Sounds like a echo and to airy. Without vmax it just lacks the punch to the bass. I will play with it some more. |

Gold Member Username: NuckPost Number: 5893 Registered: Dec-04 | I wouldn't want too low a sub with those speaks, meself. I bet they would be good with a REL sub like Art has, or a smaller 8" sealed unit. Maybe the ML dynamo, discussed recently. I would not suggest the Velo dps12. It's slow. |

Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 4230 Registered: Feb-05 | These speakers sound best with really good recordings. They sound horrible for hip hop and ok for dance. It will bring out all the flaws in bad recordings which will sound horrible. I loved the tweeters on this unit. Very nice and natural but not good with poorly recorded music such as some hiphop which is begging for a subwoofer... I will probably return them tonight after work and opt for somthing a bit more punchy and forgiving with all recordings. Perhaps find me a good floorstander with 10" or 12" woofers. Perhaps a 3 way floorstander kind of like the 1980's cabinets with a port on the back. Those were very efficiant and sounded good with alot of material. Ill need to find somthing like my old sony towers which sounded to sweet to be true with nice balance of punch and balance of bass and highs that were smooth and even offered a cool 7 band eQ on the reciever. Of course this was back when sony made good products. Everything still works just like new except for the woofers are damaged. Perhaps i could replace woofer with somthing that whould compliment the cabinet ? |

Gold Member Username: ArtkAlbany, Oregon USA Post Number: 4088 Registered: Feb-05 | REL Makes a very good budget sub in the T3 at $598 retail. Can be had for less. Use the Neutrik connection for music and both speaker level and .1 LFE simultaneously for movies. Very good for the money. The ML Dynamo is also a very good sub for the bucks but unless you can get one used for say $350-$400 the REL is where I would look first. |

Gold Member Username: NuckPost Number: 5902 Registered: Dec-04 | The 12 classic will dig to 34Hz or so. It is a classic 3 way. Pound the piss out of them. |
Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 4231 Registered: Feb-05 | Thanks guys. Never heard the Polk RTI 10 Never have heard the Cerwin Vega classic 12 3 way or the Cerwin Vega E series 12 3 way. Which one out of these you guys suggest. No need for a sub in this case which works out great. Also where is the best place to order this at a good price. |
Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 4233 Registered: Feb-05 | So far i have found these here but they are on backorder and im not sure if they will get anymore since these are the older model from 2005. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001H6DKI |

Silver Member Username: ExerciseguyBrooklyn, NY USA Post Number: 877 Registered: Oct-04 | The Cerwin-Vegas will do the trick. I think the Polk R150 are another good choice for about the same $$$ as the Insignias. For under $100, I'd would go with a pair of these Acoustic Reasearch ARXP62 http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4029539 Review: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=773485 |
