Through the help of a lot of people on this forum I've gotten my turntable up and running very smoothly. It sounds great and I'm very happy with its performance almost all the time. However, a problem has plagued me ever since I got it- the absurdity of which has made it difficult for me to adress it thoroughly. Here goes: for some reason, Miles Davis sounds awful on my system. Freddie Hubbard, Lester Bowie, Don Cherry, even Dizzy Gillespie are not a problem. Miles Davis. Every Miles record I have sounds terrible when Miles plays High and loud: sibilant and with a sort of mild crackling distortion. I had decided that this could be because of his somewhat breathy style: perhaps the breathiness creates a kind of random white noise that my mid-fi cartridge can't handle, but could that really be it? This happens on both old and new, unplayed Miles records. Am I crazy? Or is there something about the way Miles is recorded or the way his horn sounds that my cartridge can't handle?
