my turntable has been gathering dust since the last move. It works but, makes an awful grinding noise as it spins. This also happened after the previous move. I had it repaired then. But, now the same thing happened with this move. Is this just a simple balance adjustment I can make or does it require a real repair guy?
Most likely your plater bearings are ceasing. TTs that aren't used much are going to have this re-occurring problem. Pull the plater, WD-40 the bearings and spindle. Put in back together again and run on 45 rpm for about 1/2 hour. Pull the plater, clean up all the the corrosion laden oil. Repeat until it's smoothed out. On your last clean up, apply lith grease instead of machine oil.
