I recently got a pair of IMF ALS40 II http://imf-electronics.com/ALS40/index.html I talked to a guy I a Hifi store that told me that my speakers were too old for good performance. If this is true I want to change the drivers for new ones. Because accordingly to material the once sounded very good. The 4" speaker has cracks in the surround (see picture of what I mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Speaker-cross-section.svg) . Is that affecting the sound and should I therefore change it? I want to change the capacitors inside of them since I have herd that they affect the signal quite much. Should I also change the inner lining since it is just thin copper threads and I could use good speaker wire? But that would be costly but perhaps improve the performance greatly? An other problem is to disassemble the loudspeakers. There is some glue that is used to mount the speakers. It's like a paste like silicone but hard. And I wonder if there is a way to dissolve this without having to pry of the loudspeaker elements because that this damaging for my wooden finish and speakers as well. Has anybody an opinion on what to use with the speakers to make them go at their best? I have an amp that is from the same time it is a Sentec PA8 supposedly good, but just 70w/channel. And what abut replacing speaker elements. Is there an improvement to be made or is the original the best? If I can't get the original what should I use? What is the brand and marking of the originals? Hmm this was a lot of questions... Anyway thanks for all your help! They are hard to find anything about. ;) |
