hey i found a pair of ads L730s at a consinment shop in y town. they had been ther for 3 months and the price was 40 bucks so i bought them and hooked them up. i know ads is a high quality brand but these speakers sounded amazing. i was thinking about sanding down the stain and putting a mahogony finish on them along with spraypaining the grills black.
The veneer on the speakers is very thin. Any sanding usually destroys the veneer and leaves you with holes in the veneer which exposes the MDF beneath. Sanding veneer is not a good idea.
Take the worst of the two speakers to a shop that specializes in woodworking. Not a woodworking shop but a retailer who sells woodworking materials and tools. Ask them about veneers that can be applied over the existing materials. There are vinyl and real wood veneers that can be applied over a well prepared surface.
