THe Sharp units are superior, in that you can adjust the level while recording. I have a Sharp DR420 H and the sound quality is superb. I use the little "in the ear" microphones which record binaural sound (as opposed to stereo) which is much more lifelike when played back through earphones, but if played through stereo inputs in a hifi system, sounds like regular stereo. The downside is not being able to use the netMD to transfer digitally to a PC to make CD's, but you can connect the MD recorder to any stereo system and get great sound.
