Hey Peter, my buddy made a set of LaScala copies with parts from somewhere in Texas.
Man these things need an l-pad for the big horn.

Might depend on the parts too! Or which crossover design he used. Or it might simply be the lack of the very low end throwing you. I don't find the mid-horn out of balance, but some people like to tame it down a few dB using different taps on autoformer taps (depending on the crossover used).

25 year old Walnut New Advent Loudspeakers relegated to the rear surrounds. Still deserve to be the mains.

Speaking of relegation (and since this thread is going nowheres), how do you feel about the relegation of Pluto to non-planetary status?

A shame, darn shame; great dog and exemplary planet since 1930. Just not fair.

How can they do this?

15 - 17 year old DCM Time Window 3s. 2 which I bought from a friend who had not used them for 6 years and a 3rd I found at a resale shop for $20 that worked just fine. All are on hold for a soon to be developed HT Kit when I move at year end. Front Left / Center / Front Right with fairly new born (5 year old) Monitor Audio Silver 8i's slated for rear left and rear right. I did blast 1000 watts each into all 3 of the DCMs, just to see if paint really can be removed from walls. The DCMs did not surrender, but I did. LOL.

28 year old Altec Lansing Stonehenge IIs on a 40+ something year old integrated Fisher amp. SWEET!!

Yeah, I'm back but I still haven't sold my old house and it's killing me. The new 7.1 system is hardwired in the new place and they're almost done with my 2 channel room. BTW, when I get there, I'll be asking you smart guys, MR. VIGNE, about acoustic or other treatment for the room. It's approximately 12' x 17' with carpet and a closet down the long side. BUT, I'll do this on another thread as I detoured too much already.

I'm back in the saddle again.

How does it sound?

The speakers were sold a while back. They played loud and clean. I advertised them as PA/Party speakers and the guy that bought them was intending they be used just that way. The bass, while not especially deep, was nice and tight as most sealed boxes are. I wouldn't list them with my favorite speakers but it was a nice trip down memory lane.

The one to DIY is the "Cornscala". It has the top section and long horn of the La Scala and the single (not horn-loaded) bass bin of the Cornwall. It's easier to build than the La Scala, has stronger bass (but likely not as clean).

Peter I'm jealous. I drooled over those Klipschhorns back in my college days -- there was a good stereo shop in town. Of course, I'd need a lakefront mansion to use them!

Anyway, I'm using 15 year old Boston floorstanders, and 20 year old EPI bookshelf speakers, hooked up to a 15 year old Onkyo integrated amp and a 25 year old Sansui receiver. Aside from my DVD player and CD jukebox, I don't have any "new" stuff.

The EPIs will probably be replaced soon...

Don't know yet. That's one of the reasons I've been scouring this site. I've learned a few names to look at, but now it's a matter of finding a good place to audition some of these, once I get a few more bucks together. Plus, I'll probably have to look into having my BAs checked out, as well (one speaker is starting to crackle once in a while).

Thanks Gary. Sorry that i didn't notice your post earlier. I don't check in as often as I used to.

They do need a little breathing room. I'm currently in a space of about 21' wide by 15' deep, running the Klipschorns with a Hesery II center and La Scala surrounds. Very dynamic for HT (and music of course). The Klipschorns image tremendously well, pulling the disappearing act every day.
