Thursday, July 20, 2006 - 03:33 GMT Common error on that Sony. The protect light does not actually protect, it is telling you that you need to have it serviced because it is blown.

Thursday, July 20, 2006 - 05:30 GMT It is a part costing about 2.00! But it won't last long. Replaced mine at least three times in a similar Sony model. Do a google search and you'll come up with the part number and info.

Sunday, July 23, 2006 - 04:44 GMT OK, I dug through the stacks of manuals and Viola! Mine was Sony model STR-DE525 purchased in 1998. Part # 8-749-010-26 [MP1620-OPY-M] Transistor Quantity 2 $18.61 ea. 8-749-010-25 [MN2488-OPY-M] Transistor Quantity 2 $15.95 ea. I do not recall why, but on the repair invoice, I penciled in the [ ] numbers by each. My unit was still under warranty, though I remember searching online for the parts and finding them for about $2.00 ea. This was in 2000, so could be my memory is failing me! Hope this helps.
