New member Username: Ward2400Post Number: 1 Registered: May-06 | Dear All - I have been reading your posts and found them to be very helpful. I am new to all of this and trying to learn as much as possible as I prepare to upgrade my system. I am about to buy a 42" HDTV and would welcome any thoughts or suggestions on upgrading my audio system with the following limiting factors: * Room - approx. 15 X 18 * Can not have full surround speakers (3.1 max or other simmulated surround solution)decor and layout of room prevent full surround. * Current equipment - old Sony AVR (needs to go), old Sony DVD (needs to go), 2 Bose 141 bookshelfs (keep or ditch??), Bose VCS 10 center channel (keep or ditch??). * Need A/B switching in new AVR (I use it to run a couple of outdoor speakers for the deck). * Budget for audio goodies = $1,200 Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thx |

Definitely ditch the Bose gear, you should be able to get $100-200 for it all pretty easily on eBay. |
New member Username: Ward2400Post Number: 2 Registered: May-06 | Edster - Thanks. This is very helpful. A couple of follow-up questions: 1)The XR70 has 1 hdmi in/out. This doesn't seem very helpful due to lack of switching capability. Do you know of a good (and of course affordable) receiver that adds the switching? Or should I just not worry aboput it. 2) The CBM170 speakers seem to get great reviews and clearly need a sub. Can you reccommend a less expensive sub that would work well with the CBM 170s? I'm not really looking to rock the house. Thanks again. |

BTW the receiver I linked you to was the xr57 not 70, the 70 is previous generation and a half. 2. You could get the Hsu STF-1 b-stock from hsuresearch.com (call for b-stock availability) for maybe $250 shipped. Or the Athena ASP4000 or ASP6000 from audioadvisor.com, between $150 and $250. |

New member Username: Ward2400Post Number: 4 Registered: May-06 | One last question - why can't I seem to find the Pioneer Elite EX-500 on the pioneer web site? Hookedontronics shows it as a two piece system with the VSX 50 receiver and the DV50A DVD player. I can't seem to find these pieces on the pioneer site either. Am I blind??? Thanks |
