Kruder & Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions

Disc 2 tracks 2-4 are excellent for bass response and seperation.

Diana Krall- Peel Me a Grape
Madonna- Die Another Day (amazing bass transients)
Enigma- Turn Around
Sade- Smooth Operator
The Judds- Grandpa (love this for seperation)
Cher- just cher in general, her voice is difficult for speakers to handle
properly
Andrea Bocelli- the Sogno album
Josh Groban- Closer CD, there is some clipping in the 5th track, noticible on good equipment.

I never go anywhere without that Madonna track though, the bass will blow you away if you have never heard it.

It starts out full bore, then stops dead, then comes back full bore again, no rolling off here! Its all synth bass, and really deep and loud. It was AMAZING to see (and hear) this song live during her RE-INvention tour.

Nobody Knows Me is also a song that I use off the same album when demoing equipment, but its not one I rely on. Its just a fun track to listen to.

For acoustic rather than electric -

John Pizzarelli - Tequila
(percussion solo demonstrates imaging and separation)

Jazz At The Pawnshop - High Life
(lead sax moves around the stage, audience sounds)

Monty Alexander - Battle Hymn of the Republic
(full use of Yamaha Grand keyboard, piano cabinet resonance in the opener, huge dynamics from all instruments)

If you have a chance to get Santana's "Supernatural" CD that's great demo material because it features so many different instruments playing at the same time, and at many different tempos within the same song---will especially reveal your system's separation and detail.

Why not try what you normally listen to, unless you are changing tastes with the speakers?
Just a thought....

You could try the Emma Demo CD for soem suggestions.
https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/products/reviews/186180.html

There have been some slight changes to the basic disc but most of the selections remain.

I presume all these suggestions are stuff that are regularly found in each persons player?
Otherwise, what's the point?

If it sounds great with techno, but I don't listen to techno, what's the point?
If I burn cd's , I should listen with a burned cd rather than the newest remastered disc.

I am just suggesting realistic testing, is all.

and your opinion is always welcome nuck, you make good points.

I have been trying other types of music for some time now, mostly jazz and classical because most new age music just doesn't seem to have much musicality in speakers for the most part. Atleast from what ive found.

Myself, Eric, I have branched all the way out to include classic blues and Elvis. Not a big reach, but a bit.
The only jazz i've heard was just recently at a small club and was a bit of fusion(i think) as well. The band stretched out to Stevie Wonder.

That type of selection would be a fair test at various listening positions and distances.

I cannot comment on classical, beyond cartoon music.

IMHO, always stretch your musical boundaries, however, if you're going to use a piece of music as a reference you should be intimately familiar with it.

Looney Tunes was an excellent classical music training ground for many of us.

For an experience in varied music on a single commercial disc, from a single artist or band, I might suggest Paul Simon, (misdeamonors or something, I dont have it here).
All the way from S&G, bongo pop, 50 ways(a good mid tester) township jive and more.

I find the common thread of his voice to be simple to translate between systems.

As Tim said, intimately familiar.
This disc might, might be helpful, providing a commonality with quiet passages good mids and a bit off bass near the end.

Classic blues can be a bit trying at first(still can be), if you want to go straight to the heart of it, Robert Johnson.
Or Eric Clapton, Me and Mr. Johnson.

I myself have all of madonnas CD's, and am going to see her again this summer (go me!!)

IMHO, the production on "sorry" on the "confessions on a dancefloor" CD is much better than "hung up" While I love that CD, and think its one of madonnas best, "sorry" is mastered better.

for acoustic music, check out some music by Joemy Wilson

LMAO...

nope...not yet!

Its getting to be expensive too. A good ticket at a madonna concert is roughly $300US through ticketmaster. I got lucky last time at the RE-INvention tour. For $160 I had a ticket that was 5 rows off the side of the stage. I bought 2. One each for myself and the gf :-)

hey guys i made a mix with almost every single one of the songs listed in the thread and tried them out on my radiient speakers!

those were some great selections and the hyperions sounded so amazing. The highs were very accurate and the acoustics were clear and authoritative. Bass was easliy controlled. Mids and highs sounded so clean and crisp.

I love these speakers!!

Nora Jones - first album

Can't believe nobody mentioned it. Several tracks, just piano, bass and guitar with her voice.

I was going to say Tiny Tim, "Tiptoe through the Tulips" to offset Tim's Looney Tunes. LOL

Rick, I played that track from Sarah with the Ling's on the Rotel, and had to track it twice to get it right.

Difficult piece it is, but very rewarding(added just a bit of sub).

Steve Earle(picked up on Tim's bit).

Se now that's where a really good ss amp will overcome a tube amp.
Solid highs and lows, the mids will fill in naturally, from the recording or the preamp.

That song sounds great played loud, because it plays to most peoples equipment.
I can't imagine a lot of toobies playing that one loud.

That song, however is one of about a zillion...
