what is a spl meter and what does it do? It sounds to me like its a must in calibrating a ht setup. Any info would be usefull.

ive started piecing together a ht stereo setup. i dont have a very big budget so i must build slowly. i currently have this combo.

hsu stf-2 sub
ordered acsend acoustics cbm-170 se's and am awaiting delivery.
my center and surrounds are cheat satalite for now.
reciever is a pioneer VSX-514

The SPL meter allows you to fine tune your acoustics by placing it at your listening position and running your speakers through pink noise tests one by one, to achieve a uniform output level from all speakers.

Further, the Sound Pressure Level meter might help guide you in placing your nice new speakers at the optimum place in your room, as you listen in quality stereo.
