New member Username: JcourtPost Number: 1 Registered: Jan-06 | Just got a new iPod and I'm running it through my stereo when I'm home. My stereo is all Sony components from about 10 years ago. Nothing too great, but servicable for a fresh-out-of-college kid, which I was then. I think I paid $200 per component back then. But my speakers... suck. $10 garage sale types. And it's time to upgrade. I'm looking online and finding speakers for around $200 a pair. Celestion F28's, Sony SS-MF650H, SDAT stuff, etc. These are the kinds of things I'm looking at. What's good? What's worth the money? I'm not trying to blow my roof off or anything, just trying to get decent sound for a small apartment. I'd like towers, but I'm not against some shelf speakers if it's a better product for the money. Who's got some advice? |

Don S. Unregistered guest | Just bought a pair of paradigm titans--very pleased with the sound at $170/pr--very good with acoustic bluegrass recordings. |
Serniter Unregistered guest | If its any help, I ordered Wharfedale Diamond 8.3s recently for $168 a pair. Cost me an additional $22 shipping to New Jersey. http://www.audioadvisor.com/store/productdetail.asp?sku=WHARFD8.3B |

For more info on these speakers, read the link below. http://www.stereophile.com/loudspeakerreviews/404infinity/ good luck |
Silver Member Username: GavincummNew York USA Post Number: 558 Registered: Feb-05 | you can score a pair of paradigm atoms for around $220 a pair. I myself use a pair for non critical listening, and they do the job admirably. I will on occasion even sit down and enjoy 5-6 CD's from them with no interruptions, which is something I usually reserve for my magnepans in another room. They are hooked up to the TV and ran through via a decent reciever (pioneer elite) to improve the sound. You can't beat them for the price. |

serniter Unregistered guest | I got the Wharfedale 8.3s today, and am very pleased with them. Not sure how the Wharfedales are classified in terms of sound (as warm or bright) but they're just right for my taste. I tried removing one of the speaker grills, broke off one of the little wedges that holds it in place and this piece remained in its slot. I really dont care much about the speaker grills and am going to listen to them mostly without. If anyone has advise on how to detach the grill without breaking it, I'd be grateful. Other than that minor detail, I'm delighted. |

Anonymous | Remove a grill by pulling back from the corners. |
