Just save your audio file in MP3 format with name ending .mp3. Quicktime, .mov, is also good - most computers can do that. The server has to be configured to serve those file types but they are now fairly standard. You can try it and see.

Our website opens with an Mp3 64kbps file of promoclips for 8 songs. It takes 9 minutes to load on dialup. Is there a way of just loading and playing 30 seconds of one song while the rest are loading to cut down on loading time before the music is heard? Any other suggestions?

The music file has to be the right type and named the right way (".mp3", ".mov", whatever), and the computer server program has to be configured to deliver that file type in the right way. It sounds like maybe it is sending the file as text instead of binary format. Your website host admin should be able to help/advise.

Of course you can use you own music. However, I can't really add much, in general, to my post of Feb 11. For specifics you would need to get advice about the supported file types from the godaddy Internet Service Provider - or just try some and see if they work.
I repeat my recommendation of Quicktime and .mov format. Also most players/web browsers will recognise and play .aiff and .wav files. These are all cross-platform, agreed formats, the audio equivalent of .jpeg, .gif etc. for graphics.
There are other audio formats, such as Real Audio, but they offer no advantage to the user, only to the licence holder, who charges for the server software, and also sells the client software above the basic, free "player" (which is usually just as good): they are "doing a Microsoft".

Unless your computer has analogue audio in, like all older Apple Macintosh computers, you will need to get a two-channel Analogue-to-Digital converter. These are specialist "hobby" electronics items, but readily available. Probably places like Radio Shack carry one. You can then also burn LPs onto CD.

I am still pretty lost. I have Limewire and that is how I get alot of my music. I also have an Xanga website and it only takes stuff that is uploaded to the internet, and i have no way of doing that. I am a complete beginner and dont know what to do.

ok im not john but i can help out. Well the second to last anonymous, all i have to say is to first rip it if you have'nt yet. then after just find a server to upload and save your videos but make sure it can upload the type of file (.mpeg .wmv .ami , etc.) , and that's all there really is to it, most of them give you the URL to it , and i hope you know how to get it if it does'nt becuase that's really simple. Try Putfile.com , it can take most video types and im pretty sure all the music types. if i did'nt help just look at all of johns earlier answers. they probably asked the same thing you did.
Thanks, Cerves. I still recommend .mov format, if it is an option. It is most likely to work first time on the server, all internet browsers can play .mov files, and it is good quality for sound and video.

Hi! My website is on Geocities, and it seems, that it doesn't upload musicfiles. I tried, but then came this message, that the filename was invalid. Example I tried to upload The Verve's Bittersweet symphony and it's a mp3.file, and so were the other musicfiles too, but any of them didn't upload. So is it really my "good luck" that Geocities is old-fashioned, and doesn't upload mp3.'s?

The thing about www.ripway.com is that free members can only download 10mg from their account then its locked, im looking for a site that give more than dat for free.
i have a myspace and ive gone to blog upload, ripway,putfile... and once i click the "upload" button it takess sooooo long to go through and then it says page cannot be displayed and i have been doiing it and reloading it for alotta times and it still says the same sht... someone please help or please give me a site that can actually work.. thanks
