Help purchasing new speakers

I have a gift certificate for $200 toward JBL speakers, and am looking at bookshelf models. I have a pretty basic system now, a cd player and a Technics SA-EX140 Receiver (155 watts).

Any suggestions on a model that will work? And,can this receiver drive speaker models that are recommended at 175 watts?

Also, I have a 16 watt equilizer. Does this add to the watts that help drive the speakers?

anything that's not under 8 ohms impedance should be fine.

yes, speaker watt ratings are meaningless.
