I'm considering an upgrade for my hi-fi system with a budget of US$500-$700. I'm hesitating between upgrading my CD player or my speakers. Which one will bring a better acoustic improvement? My current system is composed of:

Amp: ROKSAN KANDY KA-1 MK3 Integrated Amp.
Speakers: MISSION m53 floorstanding
CD player: CAMBRIDGE AUDIO D300SE
Speaker cable: VdH Teatrack Hybrid
Interconnect: VdH 102 MK3
Mains cables: Monster Powerline 300/Shunyata Venom

I'm auditioning Rotel RCD-02 ($520), RCD-1072 ($750) for CD player or Monitor Audio S8 ($950) for speakers. Audio shop owners here don't accept returns or try with own gear.

I play a lot of Jazz, pop, vocals, and have a few dozens of HDCD's. Thanks in advance for your advice.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with this upgrade? What about your speakers or CD player displease you?

PS: If your audio shop owners there don't accept returns, I would suggest finding new shops to patronize.

I find the sound performance a little unnatural especially when playing female vocals. Moreso, I own many HDCDs which I believe my current CD player is hiding some details from me due to lack of HDCD decoder.

Thanks, Hai. I guess you meant NAD C542 as I couldn't find any info about C532. I had a look at C542 but it doesn't have a detachable power cord which I can replace with the Shunyata cord I'm using. There is a bass improve with this quality power cord.

Edster - I'm based in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, where the variety of hifi components is not that good. Any suggestions I may try out? Thanks. I will go to Singpore in Jan though.
